The Magic of Don Rosa Continues
Volume 8 bring another 7 storylines penned by Don Rosa. Collection wise this is a versatile one:1. W.H.A.D.A.L.O.T.T.A.J.A.R.G.O.N. – is an anniversary story for the Junior Woodchucks2. The Sign Of the Triple Distelfink – is an anniversary story for Gladstone Gander3. The Cowboy Captain of the Cutty Sark – fills a blank in “The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck” storyline between “the Buckaroo of the Badlands” and “The Raiders if the Copper Hill”.4. The Black Knight – is a sequel to “The universal Solvent”5. The Dutchman’s Secret – is a sequel to Rosa’s own story “The Vigilante of Pizen Bluff” from “The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck”.6. The Quest for Kalevala – is based on a Finnish anthology7. Escape from Forbidden Valley – shows Scrooge’s encounter with pre-historic creatures. The stories contain usual elements of Don Rosa’s style – panels with meticulous attention to finest details on the background, facts from history taking Scrooge across geographies, fictional encounters with prehistoric and creatures from folk, humor and serious business mixed alike lore and so on. So one can expect a full house of entertainment with enough variation in taste. The book contains 160 pages of pure comics and about another 60 pages of additional material. The additional material contains:1. The pinup posters drawn by Rosa during 1997-2000. This book prints all of them, 23 to be precise and they are mostly based on Bark’s story lines – this is something exclusive.2. The original story line of “The Quest for Kalevala” is provided in “Behind the Scenes” section, the epilogue page for the same story is printed as the last page of the same section.3. The pages from “The Pertwillaby Papers” showing “The Black Knight” as originally drawn by Rosa.4. The Introduction by Don Rosa where he discusses about “sequels” and their wide presence in movies, novels and more.5. A note from Jukka Heiskanen, the editor for the Finnish publication “Sanoma” about “Aku Ankka” aka “Uncle Scrooge”Beautiful restoration, dazzling colors and everything good about it. Two more to go before the curtain goes down. I wish this series continued for ever !

"MB's" review pretty much covers everything there is to say about this volume, and I honestly can't add a whole lot more. All of the stories are as fun as you would expect from Rosa, with my personal fave being "The Cowboy Captain of the Cutty Sark". The book is physically well-produced and the extras are as insightful as always. If you've enjoyed any of the other previous volumes then this should be a no-brainer purchase.
