Virutex C015L Portable Handheld Plastic Laminate Slitter

Awesome product.

You know how it's a nice surprise when something works as well as it is supposed to? Well, this laminate slitter is even better than that! First of all, when you take it out of the box, you can tell it is extremely well made. Solid. Take a moment to read the instructions and set your adjustments, and then get to work! It cuts narrow strips of laminate material from sheets with almost no effort. You do need to remember to keep it firmly pressed to the edge while cutting, I let my mind wander and ended up with a piece I couldn't use. I am not a professional, and this is clearly a professional level tool. But if you are doing your own kitchen or bathroom countertops, this slitter is a small price to pay for simplifying an otherwise difficult aspect of the job, and you will save more than enough by doing it yourself to justify it. Besides, it is a joy to use something that works so well! Be aware that this tool is only for cutting the narrow strips used on the facing edges of your counters, and it is not able to cut pieces more than a couple of inches wide, and it is not for cutting along a line, and definitely not for cutting around corners. This Is definitely a specific-use tool, but it excels at that specific use!

My friend owns a cabinet shop, here in southern California. He's gone mainly from paint finishing to refacing kitchen cabinets. Which is not as popular to do any more, but it is fast & easy work. Very clean also, no more over spray all over the place and on one's self. It takes a little getting used to adjusting this tool to every laminate sheet that are different brands & texture. My friend almost gave up on this tool till I should him how to used it, and he's the expert lol. Till I bought this tool early this year, my friend had been cutting laminate strip using his portable table saw at the customers home, which was messy. His dad used to use the original Virutex in the 80s, when his was an early immigrant doing formaica kitchen cabinets.

We are updating our laminate countertops and trying to save money, so I purchased a clearance piece of Formica. I tried cutting with a straight edge and a utility knife like the big box store said. It worked ok for a short cut but wasn't smooth, and I wasn't going to do that for a 10-foot-long cut. I found this tool online and it is a Breeze to use and I was able to make multiple long strip that I needed. Now I have the tool and can imagine all kind of future projects that I can do. It was a great purchase!

it works with a few adjustments.. cuts clean, but it's awkward when cutting from long sheets.. it's my first time using this tool so there must be a better way, I just haven't seen someone that has a lot of experience use this tool..

This laminate slitter is very easy to use and makes cutting laminate strips a breeze. It's super easy to adjust the strip width. Then you just put the laminate snugly in the groove, twist down the blades and pull. That's all there is to it. It's definitely not something that's necessary, as laminate can be scored (front and back) with a utility knife, then broken, or it can be cut with a power saw, or with a router. But I was glad we had this tool. I cut all the edge strips for our kitchen countertops in a matter of minutes with very little waste. This slitter cuts such a clean edge, that I even used it to cut the sides of the pieces we needed to seam together. With the addition of a little hand filing,the seam ended up perfect and nearly invisible. We saved so much money by laminating our own countertops that I was willing to splurge to get this tool and make my life a little easier. My only caveat is to be careful when you're slitting the laminate, as the edges are razor sharp!

I have owned and used this trimmer for 20(?) plus years to make laminated products 1 or 2 times every 3 months so.... I'm qualified to have an opinion. Does not replace your knife and straight edge. The real beauty is quick, accurate, multiple, repeatable, clean cut rips e.g. custom edge banding up to 6" wide and up to full sheets in length. I used mine for ripping laminate both thick and thin melamine and wood veneers. Has both quick adjustment lever and minute precision threaded knob for adjusting rip width, locking nut, and cutting wheels that are minutely adjustable for various thickness materials to perfect the cut. The cutting wheels on my machine stayed sharp for 20 years before it disappeared and I had to buy a new one. Surprisingly unchanged. Durable. A huge time-saver with perfectly straight smooth edge results. This is a must have tool.

This works great, but it was an expensive purchase. At least they could have included and extra set of cutters along with it for that price. Solid, well made, it should last a long time.
