The Helen West Casebook (Deep Sleep / Shadow Play / A Clear Conscience)

If you an amanda burton/silent witness fan you'll love this. She is as classy as ever. Wish the series were longer.

Not as good as I expected.

This British mystery series on CD is based on the books by Frances Fyfield, which I loved. I hadn't read them in years and so I ordered this series on DVD. I do love British mysteries and this series is no exception - I love it!!

What a disappointment! Script poorly written leaving chief superintendent Bailey looking stupid .. no chemistry between any of the characters. Suffered through the first story and have no intention watching the other two. Not to mention the sound/audio is lousy. Music comes in too loud while you have to strain to hear the actors. Waste of money and time.

I liked this series and the actors. Amanda Burton is great and plays a much more "sencible "woman in this than in the Commander.

The second CD skips and the box is dented, not to mentioned covered with ugly stickers. I watched it but I can't re-sell in good conscience so I'm stuck with it.

Not very good. Story lines weren't very compelling

We typically love BBC mysteries so we bought Helen West based simply on where it was made. But, these are not court room drama's, they aren't investigations, they are cases that oddly wrap around Helen West's personal life. There are far too many coincidences, far to many story overlaps that are just far fetched. And the character of Helen is, I think, supposed to be strong but simply comes off as smug. Didn't like her, frustrated by the way the stories were told. Be ye wary, this will be for the taste of few, I think.

I received this box set well before the estimated dates of arrival. The package arrived in excellent conditions and though used, the dvd's played perfectly. I thoroughly enjoyed these "cases".

I agree with everything said by the previous reviewers from Ontario. This is not great and Helen West does come across as smug vs. as a strong/independent/capable female character. That being said, I did enjoy the location etc. and it was fine as an evening's marginal entertainment escape (hence 3 vs. 2 stars) but, wish I had rented it instead of having bought it.
