Perfect for my collection
The story is captivating with some interesting themes and ideas. The chapters and the storyline keeps the adventure awake. The plots and the turnovers make it a real pageturner. The art is excellent with beautiful colors and a very interesting painting technique of Nguyen. Expensive enough but worth every penny..

Well worth the money and reading time!!
I really enjoyed this - beautiful art work, a great, exciting story, I'm just glad that my husband bought me volume 2 at the same time so that I don’t have to wait to read the rest of the story!

Mind-blowingly good. Mesmerising watercolour art by Nguyen and brilliant
Mind-blowingly good. Mesmerising watercolour art by Nguyen and brilliant, compelling story by Lemire. These two seemingly can do no wrong.

If mass effects shepard had robot cousin
The atmosphere, the universe, the characters... All of this contains a nice blend of impeding doom, which is familiar yet nice feeling. The style of the art is really nice too.

Gold Star
“Descender Deluxe volume 1” collects the first 16 issues of this science fiction comic-book.I call it ‘science fiction’ because it is a space-adventure story with aliens and humans (and robots) but no superheroics. I call it ‘adventure’, because, like Star Wars and so much other science fiction in comics and on TV, the science is rather wobbly.Setting aside the faster than light travel of which there are TWO versions available, and the fact that few writers have a grasp of astronomical distances, energy requirements or simple economics, and therefore just scale up Earth cultures and economic models, this is an entertaining story with superb artwork, which may come as a shock to anyone who isn’t familiar with Mr Nguyen’s work, but it adds a level of ‘difference’ that any science fiction series needs in order to stand out from the run of the mill comic book look. The story and characterisation is well-handled, though several of the characters are SF/comic book stereotypes, and some of the plot elements will be familiar, though the mix of these ingredients is different enough for the book to stand on its own. When I read the first two paperback collections, which took the story up to issue #11, I gave them 4-star reviews, but rereading those issues in this volume, and with the extra five issues, I have revised my review to a 5.This is a fun read, and the artwork really does give it an extra dimension that suits the characters and the type/style of the story that even an ultra-realistic artist – such as the ones who make Marvel’s latest Star Wars series so good – would not do justice to.This is what comic-books are really about – a fusion of art and story that makes the finished product something more.
