Mythic Game Master Emulator Second Edition (Mythic Role Playing And Game Master Emulator Series)

Great book if you're looking to get into solo role playing because you can't find a DND group, you want to get better as a GM/DM, or want to create your own adventures. When combined with your favorite TTRPG there's definitely potential to be playing for a very long time.

This book is even more amazing than I thought it would be! I first discovered it on an app. When I realized I that I needed the book to understand the app, I paid a pretty hefty price for it. (The app was just too cool, and I knew the book would be even more useful!) I've been reading the book cover to cover, and I've found a lot of really useful tips for beginners (me) and tons of charts and lists. That's right up my alley, so I'm pretty happy. Can't wait to put it into practice! I'm only half-way through the book (minus the stuff in the back about variations), and I'm itching to play already. I'm forcing myself to read the necessary stuff before I get started though. :)

I've been using Mythic GME in digital since 2018, and I got my printed copy of the original blue edition around late 2019. That first edition was groundbreaking, game-wise; however, the design of the book left lots to be desired (especially in the graphics aspect). A second edition was much needed, and I'm glad it finally happened! This second edition has been several years in the making, and now that I've finally got my copy, I can say it's been totally worth the wait. Tana Pigeon did an excellent job both updating and upgrading the original book. This new hardcover version is almost four times the size of the original one, all pages come in full-color, the graphics are consistent and in an awesome modern style, and the mechanics are fully functional and exciting to use. If you love RPGs, this is a great tool to have. If you love solo RPGs, then Mythic GME 2E is a must. Do I recommend getting a copy? Definitely yes!

MGME2e is an excellent tool for game mastering. While the book was designed to be used in place of a traditional GM, it also can serve quite ably as co-GM or writing aid. Much of the advice and structure is aimed at filling the role a traditional GM serves, though it does require some interpretation by the player - tables of evocative words are used to generate descriptive phrases, which you then can use the current context or situation to flesh out into surprise reveals or clever plot twists. Much of the 'emulation' mentioned in the title is done by an oracle dice roll - a d% table of weighted yes/no (or very yes/ very no) answers to a question you ask it. It also shows you how to create lists to keep the narrative straight, keep track of persistent NPC's actions, and ensure recurring villains actually return - sometimes when you least expect it! Advice is also given on how you can play through published adventures by yourself, or how to use it in a group setting to drive ongoing campaigns with no single game master. As a 'forever GM' myself, I've found it invaluable to put me in the player's seat and enjoy my own stories. Highly recommended!

The contents of the book are invaluable for anyone playing solo or DMing a group. Unfortunately my book won't close all the way otherwise it would get 5/5.

What’s not to like?

The best product for solo role playing games. Great for fantasy, science fiction, cyberpunk, horror, or any other genre you want to play in. Also great for creative writing. Delivery of my hard cover book was excellent. Book was packed in a box with great care and delivered to me undamaged. I say that because I often read comments complaining about damage to books from Amazon. I'm pleased that I had no such problems.

I really love this book. If you're into RPGs it's great for a DM who may want some randomness in his/her game.
