Classic Steak & Kidney Pie 425G

This was my first Fray Bentos streak and kidney pie. The crust was fine, and the meat was sparse, but it tasted great. That gravy was so good that I took a spoon and spooned out what was left. Now, I’ve made steak and kidney pie myself in the past (last time was probably 20 years ago) and it was delicious, but if someone would tell me how to make the gravy taste like that it would not take two decades for me to try again!

For those who complain about the quality of the product. You need to remember that this is a mass produced pie, not a hand made pie, made from scratch that you buy from you local butchers. Of course it wont be busting at the seams with filling, no matter matter what they advertise on the tin. What this is, is a trip down memory lane for the most part. I did find that there was a little more filling, but nothing to write home about. I've been purchasing these pies on and of for years since I am unable to find these in Los Angeles. They taste as good as I remember when I had them as a kid. My only complaint is the price tag. $20.00 for one pie is an absolute rip off, hence I only buy them when I want to treat myself to crappy British food from my childhood.

My mother was British and used to make us delicious steak and kidney pie in a massive pot. I still remember breaking through that delicious crust and spooning that filling of steak and kidneys with delicious and savory gravy. I remember the smell and taste. This isn’t close! Bland and small portioned with little meat and kidneys. The tin arrived dented beyond belief, but it wasn’t open so I cooked it as is. Regardless, it wasn’t worth the expense. I think I’ll cook it myself.

The upper layer of pastry was crisp....sadly the test of it was a HUGE disappointment 😪 the pie was done, but the under layers of pastry were gummy, the steak was good, the kidney WAS NOT. I'm a British citizen who got excited about a steak and kidney pie.....and was sadly disappointed by Frey Bentos...sigh....

A classic English food full of meat and gravy with a wonderful crust.

This is really delicious used to eat these in Scotland home now in the US everyone should try one delicious my son and daughter are so excited

Was not impressed on how it was packaged in the blue and white Amazon package, obviously it was miss handled, and because of this, the vacuum seal didn’t hold up. The pie itself was a huge letdown, as there was only a dessert spoonful of meat, it consisted mostly of gravy. Still tasted as I remembered.

Very tasty and plenty to eat given the size of pie!! Very filling with great steak and gravy. Bit dear !! But will still buy it as its a very nice treat !! Thank you 😊

Superb and tasty pies.

Enough for two. Useful to keep in cupboard (not a fridge) for an emergency meal. I feel it neeeds a bit more meat content, but cooked in a Air Fryer per instructions is tasty enough with sufficient gravy. For a quick, trouble-free meal, serve this with a green vegetable. Potatoes or Pasta not required.

I love them. Real steak and kidney. Plenty of it. Gravy is thick and rich.

These are great :) I've eaten them for decades. Roast potatoes with them in the oven for a feast.
