The night vision monocular is pretty decent itself. The headgear, though, is pretty terrible. The mount for the monocular is made in such a way that it will centre properly on your right eye, but not your left. This is fine if your right eye is dominant, but if not, then you will not be able to operate it properly keeping both eyes open. All in all, it was worth it for the monocular, but expect to have to buy better headgear unless your head is misshapen

Let me start by saying this is not G3 NV but neither is the price. For gen 1 technology I am very pleased with it. Some people complain about the need for the IR iluminator to see anything and that is somewhat true and is the case for about any NV. This NV works with ambient light such as streetlights, moon, stars, etc. Let me give you this example. Lets say you are standing near a street light and you are trying to see 50 yards away in wooded dark corner of your yard. The ambient light from the street light would allow you to see into that dark area of your yard. Kind of hard to explain but you will have to try one to see what I am talking about. I think some people that have never used NV has somewhat of a skewed idea of what they are supposed to perform and their expectations are pretty high. Fact i,s this NV device allows you to see in the dark and does that fairly well. The unit I was sent was very clear of any black spots that is known in NV, it has a couple of very small specks of black but not really noticeable unless you are looking for them. This unit is perfect for preppers, hunters, campers, airsofters, tactical units, S&R. K-9 handlers, etc or anyone wanting to see in the dark and is on a limited budget. It is compact, rugged and works for what it is intended use is. The head mount it comes with is ok at best and serves its purpose but I prefer a helmet mount. This unit will go onto a Rhino mount with J Arm with no modification what so ever. It is a plug and play if you buy the correct mounts. It screws right onto a milspec J Arm without any issues or modifications. Look around and you can find genuine GI issue mounts for reasonable prices. I found a Rhino mount and J Arm for $20 at a gun show. Keep in mind if you are not putting this on a decent quality helmet it will not be very comfortable or work as well because of wobble, and not staying in place in front of your eye. The helmet will need to have enough adjustment and stability to work properly. Overall I am very pleased with this unit and would recommend it to anyone looking for NV but doesn't want to spend a fortune.

Won't work right out of the box as a hands-free monocular. The monocular itself is good and when you have enough IR throw from other devices it excels. HOWEVER - unless my eyes are spread out 6x further than the average human, the mounting option is absolutely impossible to center over your eye. I am about an inch off of centering. The J-bar/arm does not allow lateral movement of the optic either. This optic could also do with a rubber eyepiece to block out some of the field of view for the eye using the optic. ... In conclusion - this is a good optic, but you will need to purchase different mounts to make it work well on the strap system or a bump helmet.

This is my first go at night vision. I did a fair little bit of research, and the general trend online was that you either buy once cry once and get decent Gen 2 or 3....or get your feet wet with Gen 1. I'm very pleased to have gone with the Gen 1! For 250 bucks, its pretty cool. Here's what I've observed so far. There are two knobs; One for eye relief (closest to the ocular lens) and the other for focus (closest to the objective lens). Make sure that both of these are properly adjusted or you're going to thing that this thing is absolute junk. I turn the eye relieve left about half a turn or so for my eye. The focus knob is not automatic and will need to be adjusted manually. You cannot focus on something at both 5 and 50 feet away, so set the focus accordingly. Keep in mind this is Generation 1 night vision. There will be a fish eye effect near the edges of the view and it will NOT be as crisp as you see in video games or movies. Your field of view will be similar to looking through an empty toilet paper roll This will amplify ambient star/moon/street light slightly better than you will be able to see in those conditions, but expect to use the IR illuminator or a separate flashlight illuminator. While not advertised, this unit will mount directly to accessories designed for the US Military AN/PVS-14 night vision, which means you can use Rhino mounts and PVS 14 J-arm mounts. These can be found very cheap online as surplus. I mounted mine to a PASGT helmet with a PASGT mounting plate. If you plan to shoot with this, note that you probably will want a weapon mounted IR light/laser. The IR illuminator on the unit itself will reflect off the the gun and wash out the image. Also keep in mind that the unit cannot focus on something right in front of you and also in the distance. An IR laser allows you to focus on the target and use the laser to aim. Using NVG comparable optics is possible, but very difficult to do with a headset mounted NVG. This can be mounted to a rifle directly for use with traditional or IR comparable optics, but I've not yet experimented with that. I'm not a professional, I don't rely on this for anything other than LARPing around with, so with that in mind, I'm happy. Edit: Photo of back wall with a bunch of junk at 30 feet with IR illuminator on in pitch black basement.

Alright everyone it’s 2019 and I’m sure some of you are browsing the web for a cheap alternative to the upper generations of night vision. Let’s all be honest we’re here to see if this is good for airsoft or paintball right? Well lemme try to give you the best possible answer to possibly buying this product. So here we go, it is FANTASTIC for ENTRY LEVEL night vision. It is a generation 1 so the technology has been around for a few decades now. The picture is clear and it’s nice but sadly it’s too hard to try to get a picture for you. Since it is generation 1 I will let you know right now that it is extremely dependent on IR lighting. After comparing it to a gen 2 and 3 it is safe to say that this is good to at least start with and after fielding it, I can safely say that it is a little difficult to use for airsoft. You have to have it really close to your eye to obviously see through it properly and since you have to wear full seal goggles while playing airsoft, I will warn you that it sucks to try to use. I used it for a pretty good 2-3 hours at a night game recently and had a really hard time navigating. It is definitely something you will have to mess around with on your own time at home in the dark or if you have some small woods or a back yard to get it to focus properly for the distance you want it. It’s hard to say what the exact distance is with the IR light is but I can tell you that even with a nice moon light it STILL needed the IR light that’s built on it. Now I will say that you are better off buying a Gen 2 and up night vision BUT like I said, it is really good for like beginners and people that are on a budget. As for the J-arm (which as I’m sure you guys are dying to know), it does fit on a J-arm perfectly! BUT the best way to do it is by removing the original screw from the head strap that comes with this product and using that instead of the screw that comes with the J-arm. Overall it would be fantastic for little games and people on a budget. I hope this review helps anyone looking into this product in 2019!
