What a great book.
This is an unusual story about two people, mother and son. They are being held captive by a deranged man. I don't want to spoil the book for anyone, but it's just so real feeling. This book kept me enthralled from home to Africa.

I loved this book
I loved this book. It is written from a 5 year olds perspective, so once you get used to his language - you will love it!

I found the plane magazines a better read.
I'm having a difficult time getting through the first few chapters. I get that it's written from the viewpoint of a child but the writing doesn't flow well for me. I took this book on a trip that required 12 hours on a plane. I found the plane magazines a better read.

Love love love (spoilers ahead)
So I watched the movie first and after falling head over heals for the movie and later buying it on DVD I just had to read the book because I know how books and movies can be different. This was so amazing. It wasn't really much different from the movie although some parts were left out or edited all together. One part that really bothered me that the movie messed up was the fact that they made it seem as if Jack and Ma were in the hospital for a short period of time but in actuality they spent a great deal there in the book and that was where she ultimately attempted suicide and not at home as in the movie. But i have to applaud the author for how well she captured Jack. It felt like I was reading in the mind of an actual 5 year old and I know that's hard to accomplish.
