Solid & Heavy, Cast Aluminium, Limited Clamping Ranges, Pads Are Plastic (Not Rubber)
They're not kidding when they say this is heavy duty. It's cast aluminium but nicely finished. Rougher than milled/CNC, but no sharp edges. I think the stand/fixture you attach this to will fail long before this does. All of it is metal; the only plastic appears to be the jaw faces and detachable jaw insert, which is odd because the listing clearly describes them as "rubber". They do the job of protecting the surface of whatever you're attaching this to regardless; as long as they are in contract (see below). I'm clamping to a 22mm tube which this handles just fine; though I question the stated clamping ranges given in the listing. The jaw design doesn't really work for tube diameters less than around 15mm, because the jaw surfaces become parallel at anything less; meaning the tube won't naturally settle into the angled upper jaws. I also tested a 50mm tube, to which this just barely clamped. I think 15-50mm is a more realistic range than the 5-60mm the listing describes. For flat surfaces (using the plastic insert), the two jaws are only parallel to each other at around 28mm, which happens to be exactly the thickness of my table. Any larger or smaller than this, and the jaws won't be parallel to each other. This means you'll have the aluminium edges of the lower jaw digging into whatever you're clamping, potentially damaging it. If they'd extended the plastic ("rubber") inserts over the edge of the lower jaw (rounding it off), this would have worked much better. Seems like an odd design decision. The top mounting options are as described; the top spigot hole has a spring-load retention pin and a threaded knob for tightening. I don't have a use for this myself, but it seems solid. The 1/4" thread is about 4.4mm deep. The threaded M5 holes either side of the 1/4" hole are about 30mm apart and 11.5mm deep; but the actual threaded part appears to be shorter. The unthreaded larger holes are the same distance apart and just over 5.4mm in diameter. These are a good fit for M5 bolts, inserted from the inside of the jaw. With the "flat" jaw insert removed, the angled jaw has a 9.3mm countersink for bolt heads, which happens to be perfect for the button-head M5 bolts I keep a stock of. This could be used to bolt something in from the other side. If you do this, about 15.5mm of the bolt length will be inside the body of the clamp. I think the quality of this clamp is good. There appear to be a lot of identical products listed under various brands. The design is a compromise that is sub-optimal for desk/table clamping; it will work, but applies a lot of force to the edge of the lower jaw, potentially damaging the desk/table. For that application I'd suggest a dedicated table clamp. For tubes, it works well.

A beast of a clamp
Just occasionally you find that you need to clamp something requiring a bit more or larger grip than usual, this is the clamp you have been looking for. I have pictured it next to one of my other "Heavy Duty" clamps to illustrate just how hefty this is, hewn from a solid block of aluminium you are going to struggle to find something photography related that this can't handle. I ordered this for a specific purpose, I generally shoot from my motorcycle using an action camera. in the new year however we have a shoot planned that requires a dedicated video camera mounted on a Gimbal, a test fit shows that it can then be mounted to the front of a bike using this, and so far it hasn't fallen off, but the shoot will be off road so we will know more on the day. If I don't update this review you know it didn't let me down.

Substantial and reliable photographer Clamp
This product from Neewer is of great quality as I have come to expect from them. The clamp is very substantial and the clamping force is impressive. The versatility of this tool is undoubted with its 5/8th hex stud mounting and additional 1/4 inch threaded mounting holes. There are also a couple of M5 threaded holes as these clamps can be paired if required. Build quality is excellent and I have little doubt this tough little clamp can serve for many years. A nice touch is the quick-release button, which can be a time saver if testing different setups at pace. The clamp is perfectly happy gripping both flat and round poles as there is a rubber insert that can be removed specifically for use with round roles. As the jaws do open quite wide it will accommodate most poles in and around a photography setup. Very good product, priced appropriately in my opinion.

A new staple piece of equipment for on set shooting!
This clamp is a great addition to my photography workflow. As a photographer, you can get in a tight spot where you may need a light, camera or other piece of equipment secured in place. After testing this clamp, I can honestly say this product offers the versatility and security needed for the on-site problems you may face in photography. I have now used this clamp to secure a Speedlite, a camera and a phone and have run into no problems at all and mounts onto my light stand very easily. If needed, you can also use this clamp on a flat surface such as a desk if you’re inclined to do so. Honestly, it’s a nice feeling to review an item that will actually be beneficial to my photographic workflow. If you’re in the market for something that will help you on set and secure your equipment, this item may prove really useful to you!
