BreyerClassics Black Beauty Horse and Book Set (1:12 Scale), 8 years and up

This is great. I purchased this as a (Arabian theme) decoration in consideration of Palestinian people. It's much better than I thought and bigger so I'm going to need a better display shelf. It's worth the money. Also adorable for animal lovers.

Attention to detail and well colored. Makes a nice display piece. This is a medium sized horse suitable for older children (8+) and is suitably built for that age range. It is a resin type horse that is hollow and light weight. With the added book this is a great gift and a wonderful value for your money.

I have enjoyed Breyer’s horses since I was a child myself in the 70s. I had this exact same Misty and Stormy set, and was able to buy a similar one for my niece. The black stallion was my favorite book as a third grader, and I was pleased to share it with my niece, who is getting ready for fifth grade. Turns out she’s already read the book, but didn’t have a copy of it herself. I enjoyed her excitement at playing with the horses as soon as she unwrapped them, and she was very excited about the books. It makes me happy to see the combination of toy and book spark such interest. Excellent quality set, and the books seem like it will be durable enough for an 11 year old. The only issue is that the black stallion was perhaps compressed in shipping, and would not stand up without immediately falling over. I couldn’t see any obvious flaw or damage, and she absolutely refused to allow me to return it. She shoved napkins and pebbles underneath its feet to make it stand up while she was playing with it. I’m going to still call it a hit.

Great gift ideas for young readers and horse lovers.

I really liked this model. I've had her for a few months now and she's holding up very very very very well. I've played with her quite a lot over these past months and she's barely even gotten a scratch on her. I completely recommend her to any breyer horse collector and lover. She is a beautiful Mustang Appaloosa Horse, but the only thing about her is her eyes were cross-eyed when I got her. I love her anyway, and just letting you know Western classic bridles do not fit this mold very well at all. I totally do recommend her though and I rated her 5 stars because she's a really impressive model the shading out her is amazing. Looking at her right now the shading is super good especially around her withers and flank her hooves aren't that detailed which I would like them to be but that's okay. They don't have the frogs inside of them. She has beautiful shade in all over her and her man is beautiful shaded as well she has a lot of overspray on her tail but I don't really mind that too much she has pretty crisp spots and markings. The only thing that I would like to see improved would have to be the tail. It looks great and all but there's a lot of over spray and it's not very well done to be honest. It's also very rough on the tail there's lots of bumps that don't belong but that doesn't really matter to me because the rest of the model and the great shading makes up for it. Recommended! And she's held up so well there's barely a scratch on her over these past five or so months. I love this model!!

Bought this one for one of my fourth grade student. She loves it. She has 4 other black beauty books and this is now apart of her collection. Great price, quality and value 👌. Packaging was good.

I bought this horse and book set, along with a couple of others by Breyer, for my daughter. The stories really add to the play value of the horses; it gives them a personality and a starting point for play. In a way, this concept reminds me of the American Girl dolls that my daughter also loves; the historical series of those dolls includes stories about the dolls based on different time periods. The dolls do have many accessories available, and I would like to see Breyer add more accessories or figures to go with these horse and book sets as well. I also wish the horses had brushable hair rather than molded plastic manes and tails, as little girls simply love to brush and groom! My daughter has a couple of horses with "real" hair and she loves washing, brushing, and braiding their hair; she can't do that with the Breyer horses. However, this horse really is lovely and unusual, and the story is engaging.

I bought this as a gift for my niece who collects Preyer horses, and ponies. She absolutely loved it. I loved that it came with the book Misty of Chincoteague so she can read the Story that inspired this model. Breyer Makes great models of good quality so I never have a problem buying one for her
