Viking Designs (Dover Pictorial Archive) Paperback – January 11, 1999

This book contains a great variety of beautiful designs, and many are quite intricate. They are different shapes and sizes, and so can be used for a variety of craft purposes. Each page tells you what objects the designs were found upon and the geographical location of where those objects were found. The publisher's note tells you a little about the history of Viking Design. This also makes a nice coloring book, whether or not you are into crafts. Overall, it makes a great addition to your library!

Exceptional for the price. This is a very good reference selection for artists and even scholars, given the incredibly fair cost. I actually expected less period information, but every single design is identified by location, with frequent identification of year range as well. The design renderings are also quite good, given the price.For anyone with even a passing interest in Norse and Viking artistry, this is an absolute steal. Yes, it is a graphic reproduction of more intricate metal and stone work, but for a $9 copy of those designs, this is beyond satisfactory. Highly recommended.

Overall the designs were cool and authentic, the fact that there are no patents is a great reason to invest. That said, a lot of the designs are VERY detailed or kind of pointless, and most of them are cut off or don't show the entire design. For someone looking for art pieces, ideas for drawings, project images or even just something cool, the book is great. If you want to look for tattoo designs then search elsewhere.

I am happy with the book, it has a lot of different designs. I was only disappointed that the pictures weren't actual pictures, more copies of the actual item they were describing. But it tells you what part of Scandinavia the pieces come from although some of them I couldn't find on a map. Thank you!

I got this book to use for my own drawing references as well an aid to help me plan a Scandinavian tattoo. Its been fun to page through and look at the beautiful designs. A really nice thing about this book is that the artists who put it together made line drawings from various carvings, so the design is really easy to see as a whole.

not that great of a book. some good designs but the quality is not the greatest and the book is really small.

I bought this book in hopes of finding I really unique design for a tattoo. I wanted something Nordic done because that is my heritage, and I found just the design. For all of you who have the book, or are planning on getting it, I will be getting the design of page 9. It's so great, I love it!No complaints about the book, was in perfect condition, although it took a little longer to get than I expected. But it was well worth the wait.:D

I bought this book as a reference guide for sketching and designing my Viking tattoos. It has been invaluable for that task and well worth the money spent.
