Best Purchase Ever. Works Great for a Local Repeater
This Repeater simplex box works really good. It was easy to set up and do a distance test. It reached within 1 mile from the location of the repeater box. The volume on your receiver radio needs to be midway up to achieve a good sound quality. Sounds really good when transmitting. It was good value for the price. This would be ideal for a good small town repeater for a rural community. I would recommend on buying this.

Fantastic single channel audio repeater to control GMRS HT radios. (some call it a parrot repeater)
Fantastic single channel audio repeater. Connected to Baofeng and then to TYT GMRS HTs with included plug. Charged internal battery and what ever audio radio receives it records and as soon as radio squelches then a moment later, keys radio to retransmit audio it has just received. Even short beep tone at end of transmission. Great for checking radio range and confirming RX and TX repeater function. Greatly extends GMRS range when positioned between two radios that are out of direct range of each other. Very pleased. Has additional functions, but am using as simple plug and play. Only adjustment required is setting receive audio volume about 1/3 rd from off. Be sure to set your GMRS repeater radio and your other HT radios to your preferred CTCSS tone code for those radios you want to communicate with.

Small but effective for short distance use
It works well, except for its reset timer. If you key up too quickly after the last message transmit, it will miss a portion of your transmission. You also really need to wait one second before speaking when it you key up. A lot of online video reviews show it is difficult to program with the DTMF tones. It is not! If you are having problems, turn up the volume on the radio connected to this device and the tones will be heard by the receiver and programming will be a breeze. It comes in with a battery installed for mobile use.

Works well as a simplex repeater
I only tested this as a basic "parrot" repeater. I didn't try other functions. It was easy to set up & it worked well. It arrived mostly charged. Topping it off took maybe 10 minutes. Setting up for operation took less than a minute, without even looking at the book. Some guys on youtube had a hard time setting up the automated periodic transmit (station ID) function, but it was unclear to me if their issues were with the repeater or the tone generators they were using to set it up. For my simple use, it worked perfectly. Duplex repeaters often have issues with cross talk between the two radios. With this simple system, that's not an issue. ...and you only need one radio to make this system work. Total repeater cost with this unit & a cheap radio was less than $75. It makes a handy emergency repeater and it makes testing radio range/clarity easy for a single person to do by themselves.

DTMF doesn't work. No way to configure.
It's an ok simplex repeater controller with default settings. However, my unit does not recognize DTMF tones at all (which is the only way to configure it). So, hope it works out of the box for you. I opened up the case and soldered in a 100nF capacitor between two surface mounted resisters (as shown in a YouTube video) and it then recognized DTMF tones and is configurable. So, if you're willing to open up the case and pull out a soldering iron on very small components then you might end up with a fully functional unit like me. Otherwise, you'll be making do.

Great cheap repeater! - Easy to use - Simple to learn - Built In Battery!!
SUMMARY: Works as expected. Records your voice and plays it back. Uses PTT and not VOX so it's a reliable transmission. PROS: - Small!! - Simple operation through DTMF tones - Ready to go from the box - Capability of recording in box one and having it identify once every 15 minutes. (Which complies with GMRS repeater ID times NOT Ham Radio; Also Part 95.119e states "(e) A station need not identify its transmissions if it automatically retransmits communications from another station which are properly identified.") - Built in rechargeable battery for on the go use CONS: - Relatively difficult to understand LEDs on the front - Requires your repeater HT to have the volume up enough for it to stay recording. Remember silence is the enemy of recording simplex repeaters. TIPS / NEED TO KNOW: - Make sure the radio you have attached has it's volume up decently high if not all the way in the beginning. The repeater seems to activate based on sound level and your radio may not have enough background noise to keep the repeater keyed. - Again, if your repeater is cutting out after a certain number of seconds or is not listening to DTMF codes turn up your radios volume!! - Make sure the radio is firmly plugged into the repeater

Voicemail record issue fixed
This is a great product. It’s simple and works well for camping etc.. However the internal battery does not have enough power to allow the Voicemail style recording to work. Figured out that supplying the DC input jack with about 12 V through a 5.5 mm barrel connector will allow all features to work flawlessly.
