Fixed E:09 error. Took about two hours.
I couldn't find any good instructions on the internet but I figured it out. I had found an English language video on Youtube, but it was for repair of a UK model and that involved removing screws and panels that a US model doesn't have. I found a couple decent videos in Swedish and German, and the German video especially inspired me to look more closely before removing too many exterior parts (the guy in that video just reached in from the back and removed what seemed to be the same pump). I did not find it necessary to remove the door or any panels of my SHEM78W55N/01, although I did find it helpful to set the whole dishwasher on its back for repair. Here's how I did it, in only 35 easy steps!1. Empty the dishwasher and remove the racks.2. Remove the bottom wash arm by pulling it straight up.3. Remove the filter by turning it counterclockwise a quarter turn and then lifting it.4. Turn off the circuit breaker (our house also has a countertop switch, but I killed the breaker to be sure). Try turning the dishwasher on to make sure you turned off the right breaker.5. Close the hot water supply shutoff valve. (If you don't have a hot water supply shutoff valve, maybe take this opportunity to call a plumber to install one).6. Carefully disconnect the supply hose from the hot water line. Be prepared to catch spills.7. Disconnect the drain hose from the garbage disposal. Again, be prepared to catch spills. Reserve the clamp holding the drain hose onto the inlet on the garbage disposal; it will be needed to reattach the hose.8. Remove the two screws securing the dishwasher kick plate and remove the kick plate itself. Set aside.9. Remove the two screws securing the side panels of the dishwasher to the cabinet. Set aside.10. Slide the dishwasher out far enough to disconnect the hoses and power line. In my case it was necessary to feed the hoses from the other side of the cabinet to allow the dishwasher to come out far enough.11. Disconnect the power cable from the dishwasher.12. Carefully disconnect the hot water supply line from the brass fitting. Be prepared for spills.13. Lay the dishwasher on its back. Note: the drain hose cannot be disconnected. Be careful not to pinch or kink it as you lay the dishwasher on its back. It may be helpful to rotate the dishwasher 90° before laying it down.14. With the dishwasher on its back, you may expose its right side by gently pulling the insulation away. You will see a control panel assembly (white plastic with a gray top cover) secured by a single tab in the center.15. Press the tab in and release the control panel assembly. It is not necessary to disconnect any cables.16. With the control panel assembly lifted away, you can see the heat pump assembly. There are three wiring harnesses connected to it. It is secured in place by an hourglass shaped rubber fitting and a compression clamp on the outlet hose (the outlet is the part facing the top of the dishwasher; the inlet is the part facing the left of the dishwasher).17. Using a flathead screwdriver, lift the tabbed end of the clamp off its retaining teeth. The clamp will pop open as the tab clears the teeth. Note: it may be easier to access the tabbed end on this clamp from the left side (the insulation peels away the same way on the left as on the right). The clamp may pop open as you lift the end off. You do not need to reserve this clamp. A new, screw-fitting compression clamp is included with the heat pump.18. Once the clamp is loose, you may return to the right side of the dishwasher. Pull (well, wiggle) the hourglass-shaped rubber fitting off the tab securing it to the dishwasher housing.19. The existing heat pump may now be removed with a little bit of wiggling. Be mindful of the wiring harnesses connected to it. Be prepared for a small spill.20. Remove the three wiring harnesses. The two larger connectors clip in place and can be released by pinching tabs. The smallest connector (partly obscured by the largest) is friction fit and can be carefully pulled straight out.21. Slide the new retaining clamp over the outlet hose and press the new heat pump into place.22. Slide the new hourglass-shaped rubber fitting over the supporting tab of the dishwasher housing.23. Align the retaining clamp over the outlet hose and secure it as you tighten the retaining clamp over the outlet hose. You can do this without help, but it will be easier if you have an assistant who can hold the clamp from the other side as you tighten it. (I texted my wife that I needed a third arm, but then I made it work with only two).24. Connect the three wiring harnesses that were disconnected from the old heat pump in step 20.25. Replace the control panel housing, ensuring that the tab securing it clicks into place.26. Replace the insulation.27. Return the dishwasher to its upright position.28. Reconnect the hot water supply line.29. Reconnect the power cable.30. Carefully push the dishwasher back into place, feeding hoses as necessary.31. Level the dishwasher again before attaching the mounting screws and kick plate.32. Route the drain hose as before and connect it to the garbage disposal using the reserved clamp.33. Connect the hot water supply line to the supply and open the valve, checking for leaks.34. Restore the circuit breaker.35. Replace the filter, bottom wash arm, and racks. Your dishwasher should now be ready for use.Really, the only fiddly parts were figuring out how to remove the old outlet hose clamp and how to hold the new clamp in place as I tightened it. It's pretty clear that they expect the removal of the old clamp to be destructive in the field, since they include a new clamp of a different style with the new pump. Then it was just a matter of figuring out how to destroy it without also damaging the hose it secured.

Fit perfect. Works fine.
As much as I didn't want to do this chore, the unit came with the clamp - the only other part that was needed to do the job - and I doubt the whole thing took an hour. Youtube was a big help in finding the easiest way to do the part exchange, but once installed it's working like a new dishwasher. Maybe this one will last longer than five years. The old one looked brand new inside. Just a weak link part. Oh, well...

Work to repair a dishwasher
With the assistance from a couple of YouTube streams, I was able to repair a Bosh dishwasher that was giving a e09 code. Saved a bunch having this as a diy project, even for an old guy!

Genuine OEM & easy installation
Wasn’t happy about replacing the original pump/heater after only 2.5 yrs, but it took longer to remove the dishwasher from the counter than it did to replace this assembly. For the effort involved, I wasn’t going to use an aftermarket knockoff. I hope it lasts longer than the original!
