Jackson Browne's third album, Late For The Sky touched on themes of love, loss, and life itself. It includes the beautiful title track, "Fountains of Sorrow," "For A Dancer," and "Before The Deluge." Browne was joined by David Lindley and his stellar group, along with guests Dan Fogelberg, Don Henley and J.D Souther.

This 2014 Inside Records/Warners remaster is, on the whole, a success. It must be remastered from a source at least close to the original as what is represented here is not the "reverb version", which I presume was an idea concocted in the 80s, but the "dry" original presentation. I've always thought "For Everyman" sounded better (on CD...I haven't heard the vinyl of either) with a fatter and warmer sound but this version stands up to it now. I must admit that on initial listening I was firstly impressed with the weight and richness of the sound, though a little disappointed that it was a tad over compressed but I began to get irritated by how loud the vocal is over the music on the first three tracks only. (My guess is that they remastered chronologically and got better at it as they went on). After that it's pretty perfect. I've since gotten used to it and to be honest there's no going back to the earlier remastering that I had. There is zero hiss and attention to detail here. It's mastered by a collective of 3 engineers. The original production may not have been what it could have (and I don't mean the songs which are sublime) so on balance it's a great presentation and my favourite collection of his songs.

40TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION (2014) - BIG WARNING PLEASE READ THIS REVIEW FULLY
I have came straight to my computer seething with anger to write this review (sorry warning) after opening the package and seeing what I have been sent (not the sellers fault) The CD itself is in the flimsiest cheapest cardboard cover I have ever seen on a CD ! Its supposed to be a 40th anniversary re-master edition and not even one page of liner notes ! This CD is packaged even worse than the free CD's given away with UK tabloid newspapers ! HOW DARE THE RECORD COMPANY DO THIS !!!! All just to save a few pennies/cents ! And shame on you too Mr Browne if you had any say at all in this. I am so angry that I have paused before writing this sentence to rip the cover up and snap the CD in half without even having played it ! I wouldn't spoil the look of my CD collection with this trash !!!! Some of you might be saying well its just about the music not the packaging ! Well if that's the case, why bother sending off for the CD ? just get the digital download !!! No good if you like having the physical object and collect CD's though is it ? I mean the Louvre wouldn't display the Mona Lisa in a plywood frame just to save money !!! If you don't believe me how bad the CD is packaged just buy it for yourself and see !! I GUARANTEE you will either hear yourself audibly 'gasp' or laugh out loud when you see IT !!!
