Touching true story
Stories of domestic violence are often told from the female survivors' point of view, and their stories are vital to help those who have never suffered from abuse feel empathy and understanding. Much also needs to be said by the sons and stepsons who survive growing up with violent, abusive men.D Paul Fleming here bears witness to his own awful experience. This is an important book and it's also a great read. Fleming isn't a professional author. In fact he was an adult before he learned to read and write, and there are traces of this lack of ease with language in the work he has done here. But his voice is original, and he tells his story with pace, verve and authenticity.I enjoyed this book. It was hard to read at times - how much violence can one young boy take, and how much can the reader bear - but the overall message is an uplifting one. Its a coming of age story. I hope Fleming continues to write his autobiography and when he does I will read it.

a really sad and emotional story with beautiful writing
i found parts of this book hard to read and there were times were i cried or had to put the book down.. this book is quiet heavy as it discusses abuse and other topics so please check trigger warnings before reading! the author did a great job at putting this story together and the writing was truly beautiful.. i will definitely be reading the rest of the books.
