Black walnuts have a distinctive flavor! You will either love them or hate them. They go beautifully with a good vanilla ice cream or banana split or coffee ice cream or gluten free brownies! Sometimes when I return to regular walnuts they taste really bland. Maybe black walnuts are an acquired taste, but once acquired, they're wonderful. This is a really good brand.

My first order which was around the Christmas holidays was great. The nuts had great flavor and were fresh. Our second order was in the spring and in that order, the nuts tasted a little rancid. If you were using these for baking, you wouldn't notice but we use for just eating raw.

I’ve been ordering these nuts for a while and even though the seal inside was detached it doesn’t matter because the bag they come in is completely sealed so the freshness is always there and all you have to do after you cut the bag open is put them in a sealed container and stash them in the fridge. The taste is so great and the price is very compatible compared to other sellers. I’ll always purchase these black walnuts from Hammons and have never found a better price for the quantity and quality I get.

I got spoiled with ones we gather and crack fresh ourselves. That process is a lot of work! So I thought I would cheat and try these lol. They are good but… they have a taste I’m just not quite figuring out… something maybe they rinse them in before packaging maybe? Not sure but they are just slightly … hmmmm… IDK? The pieces are smaller than I expected. But still large’ish. About a 1/4 piece or smaller of a whole nut. I will finish this bag but not sure if I will buy again? It’s a “maybe” … I think I’m just spoiled from having fresh cracked from our farm ones lol… so it’s probably just me … Also be aware too many in one sitting will cause digestion problems in the “Metamucil” kind of way lol. So limit your intake!

These bring back such fond memories. As a child I remember glorious summer days sitting on the front porch pounding black walnuts with a rock to get them to crack open. I was too young and my hands were too small to use one of those hand-grip things used to crush open nuts and so my mother showed me how to place a walnut on the concrete floor of the porch and then to slam it with a hand-sized rock. One of my uncles had these huge black walnut trees growing on his land and he always brought a bag when he came to visit once or twice a year and he wore a scratchy wool suit coat and he'd give me gum and let me sit on his lap. And that's what I taste when I crunch down on a handful of these - a memory of a pleasant time in childhood. Even so, if they weren't as fresh-tasting as a childhood dream they probably wouldn't have this effect on me. I keep buying them on subscribe and save. They must be doing something right.

I bought this bag 4 months ago, but just opened it. I grilled sweet potatoes 🍠 & was so excited to top them with the nuts. But, the nuts tasted rancid! I’m throwing it away! Absolutely disgusting🤮

I love black walnuts & eat them right out of the bag & I do use them in cakes,cookies etc when I cook if I have any left.We had about four trees where I was born in Bluewell,Wva & on a big rock with a hammer we would crack them up.We would first make sure they were good & dried out. Those were the memories I will never forget.

These were good but not the super fragrant black walnuts I had become accustomed to from my local organic market. They also did not have that strong distinguishing taste that made me fall in love with these nuts for baking. Otherwise, they will do until either my market restocks or I can find the vendor of the ones sold in Moms Organic.
