This is an excellent allegory and the characters mesh in so well with what one feels about the time in which it is set. However, you could translate it so easily to present day and even to the doubts that we all have at one time or another. Some of the paragraphs are quotable. It is a real 'page-turner' and well worth buying. I thought it paralleld the Kabbalistic tale of the 'Four Rabbis' beautifully. Elisha was a flawed but very sympathetic character and Akiba was magnificient.An excellent read!
