Q: Does this prevent lock picking?

The Addalock keeps the door from opening due to the design of the item even if the proper door key is used. I think that it would work the same way if the lock was picked. The door physically cannot open with this gizmo properly in place.

Q: What exactly in this gizmo that prevents the door from oepning?

The metal flange fits into the striker plate, and then the door is closed. The red part is metal, and inserts into the metal flange, resting against the door. If someone tries to open the door the red part prevents the door from opening.

Q: does it work with all door types?my doorknob does not have a handle, does not have any keyholes, and does not have any 'push buttons'.

These only work on doors that have the traditional striker panel on the door frame. That is how they stay in place. Also they will not work in hotels that have key card door handles as the striker panel is too large for the add a lock to fit into.
