Q: I currently have late 2013 27” iMac with fusion drive. What is it I have to remove from my existing machine since it’s a fusion drive?

It depends on what you are doing. Just the existing hard drive. In the fusion drive iMac(s), there is a SATA hard drive and a SSD blade drive (I forget the format). Getting to the SATA drive requires a partial disassembly, getting the blade drive requires a full disassembly(the blade drive is on the back side of the motherboard). I saw conflicting advice on whether both the blade drive and a replacement SATA SSD drive would work together, I think that they would, but since a larger sata SSD would cost a lot more than a hard drive, I went with replacing the 3tb hard drive with another 3tb hard drive. For my iMac with a fusion drive,I used this kit (with the smallest available SSD) to replace a failed hard drive, I bought a new 3TB hard drive. I did not use the provided SSD in my iMac. The OWC kit contained everything needed for replacing the hard drive. The process is not hard but you should watch the OWC video a few times, make sure that the old adhesive is removed completely, use the "pizza" cutter to separate the display panel from the case, and so forth. I bought the owc kit, a 3TB hard drive, and second set of the adhesive strips.

Hello! While there is always a chance of a drive being damaged during shipping and arriving DOA or an issue happening during installation, this is not something has been a problem. One thing you can do if you are worried about a drive not working upon installation, is to test it externally prior to installation using an external enclosure of some kind. For an SSD like this, most any 2.5" drive enclosure will do.

Q: Does the service engineer come to our house to install this kit ? or do i have to send in my imac?

This product is just the tools to install it yourself. The product is backed by an online do-it-yourself video. If you are not comfortable doing the installation yourself, this product is not for you.

Q: why is this so high priced?
