Know what you are buying
I admit that the description of this splitter isn't entirely accurate, it's more vague rather than being specific about what this product is intended for. But those who expected this to magically create its own IP address and allow you to use 2 devices with a unique IP on both devices are kidding themselves. It's a $2 plastic splitter for cryin out loud! If you want a different IP address on two devices, you need two modems, and both modems must be registered with your ISP in order to generate unique IP addresses. If you want to use two devices on the same connection and don't care about whether they have the same IP address, you need a router. This device is meant to split a single connection to two devices, and each device can only be used individually. Now for most, this is probably not what you are looking for, but that is what it is designed to do. For example, I use this splitter to split the connection between by satellite box and Wii. I don't use the two devices together (they are both connected to my TV so I can either watch satellite TV or play the Wii). Since the satellite and Wii consoles are kept in a cabinet, it was inconvenient for me to reach to the back and change the ethernet cable each time. That is why I got this splitter - this way, if I turn on the Wii, it has internet connection, and if I turn on the satellite box, that has internet connection. I cannot use both devices at the same time, and I don't intend to either (any way, I can't watch satellite and play Wii at the same time on my TV). So for me, this product is just what I was looking for and has made my life easier. Hope this helps you make a more informed buying decision!

Okay Service.
Ethernet splitter doesn't work on a cable modem. Wanted to return it. The postage cost more that I spent on the item. They would glad accept the return of a $2.00 product.

It works/ what more could you want?
This item is designed to couple or split network cables. it would be hard to get wrong. I used it as a coupler. Connections are secure and it shows no signal loss. Plus, it's dirt cheap. Good item.

Most are upset because they misunderstood, device serves its purpose
This device is simple. It is for the convenience of not having to switch cords on devices all the time. I use the splitter to switch connections between my Xbox One and Xbox 360 (because hard wire is most often faster) but I dont play both at the same time. You cannot run multiple devices at the same time successfully with this splitter.

Misleading item description
The description for this item if very misleading. It currently says: " Convert and increase your Ethernet connections from 1 to 2 sockets Allow two computers to share high speed DSL, cable modem and Ethernet ports Convert a single RJ45 outlet to two RJ45 sockets easily Compact design. 8 wire RJ-45T adapter, parallel wiring Connector: 3 x RJ45 female" Lets look at this line by line. "Convert and increase your Ethernet connections from 1 to 2 sockets" - Yes, it does that, but you can not have both devices on at the same time due to the way this unit is wired. The problem with this line is the mention of Ethernet. "Convert a single RJ45 outlet to two RJ45 sockets easily" - It does do that, and would be more useful for phone connections and not Ethernet/network connections. "Compact design. 8 wire RJ-45T adapter, parallel wiring" - It is compact, and read this line very carefully, all 8 wires are wired up in PARALLEL between all 3 ports. This means you CAN NOT use this device to actively split a single network connection into 2 active at the same time. The devices will step all over, and garble each other's signal. "Connector: 3 x RJ45 female" - Yup, that is what it is. I got 10 of these to use for some testing at work where we have instances of only 1 cat5 line run between 2 rooms and need to have 2 active devices use the line at the same time. Without installing a switch at the remote end. We have used something similar to this before, where it actually splits up the pairs so 4 wires go to 1 port, and 4 go to the other port. This unit does NOT do that. Using it for an active connection on all ports it is only good for phone service, or to possibly do some network packet sniffing, so long as the sniffing devices does not send anything out. In a non active system you can use this as "advertised" so long as you do not have both end points on at the same time. If attempting to use gig do not expect full throughput as this will introduce extra noise onto the cat5/6 line. I complained to the seller requesting to see a pin out diagram and this is the email they sent back: "As far as we know, the connectors are parallel wired, so each pin1 is joined to the splitted pin1, and so on for pins 1-8. I understand from the Amazon reviews that some splitters are wired in 4-pin half duplex on each of the splitted ends, but those reviews are reviewing a different item. Best regards, Bargain Cable" So... If you are looking to split an "Ethernet" aka NETWORK connection in any way, this device is NOT the one to use.

Low quality
As is the case many times, you get what you pay for. I opened the product when it arrived and it immediately came apart... I was able to snap it back together after rearranging the pieces but I have little confidence in the splitter being able to provide a reliable signal for my broadband...

Ethernet Splitter
We had been looking for a splitter but was unable to find one at our local retailers. It was refreshing to see a high quality product at a reasonable price.

Nice Splitter
I have two computer hooked up to this splitter with only one Ethernet connection. By splitting the signal, I can connect to the Internet on either computer with just one connection. The point one has to remember though--there can only one computer at a time accessing the Internet. That is to say, you can't have both computers running simultaneously and expect to have Internet capability. The signal won't split between two computers at the same time, but it will send a signal to each one separately as long as one computer is being used at a time. So why buy this kind of splitter? Saves the hassle of having to plug and unplug the Ethernet cable whenever switching between computers. A very nice product if one has need for it.
