This product works great. I saw some reviews claim it was off by 4 or more proof, however I don’t think they took the temperature into account. You have to follow the directions properly for any measuring device to be accurate. The temperature of the alcohol will affect the reading. So if the ambient temperature is 75 or 80 degrees you have to realize that your alcohol is not going to be 60 degrees which is the baseline temperature. So I tested this on some 100 proof white whiskey that is going into a mini aging barrel. The hydrometer read at 108, then I took the temperature of the whiskey which was 80 degrees. Then using the chart this company has on their website it gave me a reading of 99.8 proof.... accurate to +/- .2 as they claim. So make sure you test completely and accurately before you claim it isn’t accurate. As noted by other reviewers spend the extra $10 and get the glass tube, you need it. Great product!!

The hydrometer is very easy to use. The instructions are easy to follow, too. However; the glass cylinder that came with our hydrometer is terribly skewed and leans left to the point that is barely stands by itself. We have to hold the cylinder down to make sure it stays upright while pouring ethanol into it. Other than this, the product itself is good. Hydrometer is not certified, but gets the job done. The Conversion Table offered is not in a logical format, somewhat difficult to read, and was full of typos and blanks in odd places (e.g., ! and / in proof values). I had to convert the PDF into a spreadsheet and clean it up myself so I can use it more effectively. Overall, the product is good to use, but I got defective pieces.

We have a personal training gym and we've been going through much more cleaning alcohol than in the past. Unfortunately our regular suppliers haven't been able to keep up, so we've had to purchase from companies we're not familiar with. We purchased this to verify the alcohol content of the bottles we've been buying. It worked like a charm! We use different concentrations, 62, 70 and 99% solutions. We first tested against our known good supply and everything checked out. Then we tested our new bottles. Much to our relief, they were all what they claimed. We will continue testing every gallon that comes in, and having this makes us feel much better about what we're using. (Read all their instructions thoroughly. When people say it broke right away, I wonder how they were handling it. One of the instructions says the most common way these break is when people DROP it into the test beaker. You've got to let it down SLOWLY so it doesn't crash into the bottom, especially if you're testing something that's a high proof or contains a high percentage of alcohol.)

I ordered this kit because I needed a glass jar for my existing hydrometer and figured I might as well have a backup hydrometer just in case. Made in the USA is certainly a bonus! Everything arrived in perfect shape. No breaks. The box it comes in is perfect for storing everything while not in use. The hygrometer is delicate so be careful with it. Especially while cleaning it. It can easily slip out of wet and sudsy hands. The glass jar is well made. The glass is thick and it comes with a protective ring so if you accidentally knock it over, it's way more likely to survive than if it didn't have the ring. The only recommendation I have for the owners is to go over the proof adjustment table and make corrections as there are quite a lot of errors. Most likely, it's an OCR of the National Bureau of Standards publication of Table 1. I've previously tried to OCR the same pdf and was pretty successful in doing so but I ran into the same issues. 6 and 8 are very often mistaken for each other. 7 and 1 as well. 8 and B is another. Think I saw a / or \ in there as well. Other than that, everything is great.

It’s a nice looking hygrometer and the long test tube beaker is useful to put the liquid in to measure. However, it’s not completely accurate. I checked on store bought distilled water at around 60 F....I showed around 5 to 6 proof alcohol. I then tried with Diesel 190 proof.....it showed around 194. Wild Turkey 101, new bottle was at a little less than 110 proof and a decent 80 proof XO Cognac was around 86. I think the calibration is a bit off.......manufacturer.....pls check the calibration of this batch of hygrometers....it’s not inexpensive....hence, one expects better. Or ....a Big Or ....pls advice if one can do something to measure better.....the new bottles of alcohol, store bought distilled water were all around 60F or a bit more if it warmed up in the measurement beaker. Except for the 190 proof alcohol, in all other cases the hygrometer did touch the sides as it was floating

You look at this this it breaks!! The kit itself is amazing but the glass is so fragile!! Don’t recommend this at all!! EDIT: The company reached out to me and made things right!! I totally recommend this company and they 100% stand behind their products!!
