The ieGeek 5MP solar-powered wireless outdoor security cameras are awesome!! I live in Texas and recently purchased two cameras for a home I own in Pennsylvania. After doing extensive research, I chose ieGeek and am glad I did. The live views as well as the recorded videos and images are crystal clear. Using the ieGeek app on my phone, I have the ability to control the coverage area (horizontal and vertical) of each camera. I’m also able to set the motion detection sensitivity. A few days ago on my phone, I watched five dear as they enjoyed some apples and pears that had fallen from the trees in the yard. This morning from my Texas home, I was able to see and chat (using the camera’s intercom) with my brother in Pennsylvania as he stood outside on the driveway. He could hear me loud and clear and vice versa. I had no problem setting up and installing the cameras and solar panels. What I did first though, was to charge the batteries in the cameras, format and install micro SD cards, download the ieGeek app to my phone, set up an account and then connect each camera to my password protected local network. The connections were flawless. I was pleasantly surprised; it usually takes multiple attempts for me when hooking up network devices. The solar panels are working perfectly; the camera batteries continually show a 100 percent charge. I am planning to purchase a few more cameras for my PA home. I should mention, I’m looking forward to seeing the first PA snow from the comforts of my Texas home. lol

Siding installers trashed one of my Google cameras and I was tempted to replace it with another of the same make / model. But this little guy caught my eye with its pan and tilt capabilities, solar panel, and very low price for all that. Indeed, the price seemed too good to be true so I almost passed it by. After reading the reviews, however, I swallowed hard and made the leap. And I am truly glad I did. This camera may be inexpensive but it is far from cheap. Physical installation is so simple as to require no discussion except to say that four thumb screws make it so easy to mount and dismount from the mounting bracket that the wrong folks might be tempted. Beyond that, the only real question mark was where - not how - to install the solar panel. I wanted to minimize the solar panel so as to not attract unwanted attention. The manual cautioned, however, that good results required that certain parameters be observed. As a result, I was stymied for a bit. I finally concluded that I really did not care. After all, I could easily recharge the battery via the USB interface any time it became necessary. I could even make that charging interface permanent if I so desired. So, in the end, I tucked the panel flat into a cranny between a pair of fencing boards near the house. I still need to stow the cable but we will wait until ongoing exterior repairs are complete to do that. Even as it sits, however, the panel gets full sun about 60 percent of the day and, so far, the battery indicator has never indicated anything other than full. As for the pan and tilt that caught my eye in the first place, these work quite well and exactly as you would expect - with one possible exception: there is a slight delay between issuing a command and the camera's movement. I have seen this slight delay with other wirelessly networked devices but for reasons I cannot explain I found this to be disconcerting in this camera initially. The best, but inadequate, analogy I can offer is that it feels more like driving a boat than driving a car. I soon became accustomed to the slight delay, however, and now barely notice it. And, yes, there were other parts of the interface that seemed a bit clumsy at first. I guess I just had to make the transition from my Google camera interface, however, because after less than a week I was quite comfortable with it. And that includes the history interface that stymied me at first. History is something we have found to be quite useful with our Google cameras. Coupled with Nest Aware cloud storage, our Google cameras have afforded nearly unlimited video history. We have used it to good advantage on multiple occasions, the two most notable being a car theft and a car rear-ending a motorcycle in front of our house. The Nest Aware service also does a great job of analyzing movement and categorizing it as animal, person, etc. I have not yet tried the similar cloud services offered by ieGeek so I cannot comment on that. I do very much like, however, the ability to store up to 128 megabytes of history on the optional memory card. I am wondering, however, as to how well six-second, motion-activated recordings will fare in situations such as I mentioned above. I remain hopeful that there are options, cloud or otherwise, of which I am not yet aware. Finally, email support has been extremely responsive, extremely courteous and extremely helpful. And I do not use the word "extremely" carelessly. If you are like me, you will have to see it to believe it so I will leave it at that. In closing, even the happiest customer always wants "just one more thing." And what do you always want to do after you pan / tilt a camera and finally have the nearly perfect view? Optical zoom! The digital zoom on my ieGeek 5MP camera beats my lower-resolution Google cameras hands-down. Nevertheless, an optical zoom would still be a treat! And why not? If an inexpensive camera can offer an expensive feature like pan and tilt, why not optical zoom? Just kidding. Maybe.
