They are top open, not side, which I was hoping for. Would not recommend if you’re looking for side open. Thickness is about the same as a usps flat rate envelope so not super sturdy but suits my needs. They do not have an opening strip so that’s a bit disappointing but not a deal breaker. I had no problems with the adhesive but have only used 20 or so thus far. Overall for my application I found them to be acceptable and a good value.

September 2016: This product is not at all as described. The adhesive strip is barely tacky. When you remove the paper strip and close the mailer, it comes right back open--not happy to have to tape all 500 of these self-adhesive mailers! They are described as light-weight and that is true, but they have only half of the rigidity of the mailers we are used to getting from Royal Mailers. Can not recommend this product at all. 2 STARSMay 2017: I am adding to my prior review and increasing my rating of this product. My prior post about the dried out adhesive is true and these mailers must be taped (disappointing) the mailers ended up being surprisingly useful. The 5x7 size is great for our shipments of items NOT requiring a heavier mailer.

I paid extra money to get envelopes which opened on the long horizontal side. Only for them to arrive opening on the short vertical side. AND they're flimsy to boot! Very aggravating. Now I have to lug around 500 envelopes to return? Smdh
