Q: The eye piece of the microscope has a 10X lens that you need to remove to use this. Does the mount have its own 10X lens to make up for it?

okay, which is it? There are definitely convex lenses in the unit, so it has to multiply somewhat (you can unscrew the lens and a small plastic lens falls out). 16x would be such an oddball magnification. Zero info on Gosky's web site. So... one commentor says 16x, another says zero. I, for one, do not know. Any info that we can get from Gosky?

I would be interested to hear from Gosky Seller. I too have a 30mm dia eyepiece as is used in profession microscopes. What I would suggest is you ask your supplier for a 30mm adapter that would fit over the 23 mm 16x lense of your device. That way you wouldn't need to carry 2 smartphone adapters in stock.

Q: What are possible reasons for the field of the picture having shrunk?

Magnification and zoom will shrink field of view..couldn't tell you for a microscope as I only use this for my telescope
