I have a local lake that I bank fish and I had no real idea of depth and structure. I decided to give this Deeper START a shot and see what it could do. This device is about idiot proof. The instructions are clear and concise, and it worked immediately with my first cast into the water. I have had no issue with connectivity except under one condition - windy, choppy water. If it is still and just bobbing up and down over the chop you will lose connectivity. When I started reeling it in slowly it maintained connection. As for accuracy, I think the depth readings are vegetation readings are accurate and I use that knowledge to pick lures etc. As for finding fish I think the jury is still out (but i have only used it a handful of times). The device marks fish of course but I have not actually caught anything based on the markings. For the price I think this is a fun gadget to own. I could spend all day just throwing it out and reeling it in just to see what's underwater. For just a simple bank fisherman like me it gets the job done.

They need to include a printed user manual to fully explain how to access certain settings and explain what they are. There is an online manual, not very comprehensive, through the Deeper app but you need web access to view it, not good if you are out in the wilderness fishing.

One star is an over statement. This us our 2nd unit and just like the 1st it didn't last one season. We spent just under $200. Altogether so we could confirm and warn others. This is an imferior product. The company will send you through endless back and forth emails. Waste of time and money.

Update: 3/4/2021Finally Deeper support cleared out my issue! I am a happy camper! New one works perfectly and connects!__________________________________Update: 2/23/2021Received new one. Same issue as before. The unit does not display Deeper START in the Wifi network like the first one I purchased that stopped working after a week. Tried on two different phones, laptops and tablets. What does appear is ESP_2B6442 which is the device but support clarified that is wrong. Nonetheless I tried to connect to that and it immediately fails. So a 3rd unit now does this. Contacting support again and they are sending another one.Wifi+ is off, there is no VPN and the phone has been restarted to eliminate any issues. Device placed on charge or in water and away from other Wifi devices and no effect. Unit is flashing that's it's broadcasting, app has all permissions also but that does not matter when the correct Wifi name can not be connected to. Unit is fully charged, Mobile/Cellular data is off, WiFi assist is off, Smart network management does not exist, Portable WiFi hotspot is off. That covers anything and still does not work properly. I have spent days to make it work and 3 in a row are doing this. I sent them back and waiting for support to diagnose what is going on, Deeper application has permission to use "Mobile/Cellular" and "Location". To check this, go to your "Phone settings" -> "Application settings" and find "Fishdeeper".__________________________________Update: 2/19/2021After speaking with Deeper support they determined a second unit is faulty? They are sending another replacement. I asked they test it before sending it out and they stated they will. Customer service is great but having the company in Lithuania and having to wait to get a replacement from there puts a damper on my fishing schedule and usage of the Deeper. Will update once received.__________________________________Update: 2/14/2021New unit received and same issue. Deeper does not appear on list of Wifi devices to connect to. Does not appear on my Huawei Mate 10 nor my LG K10 nor my new Asus Zenbook nor on my Samsung Galaxy tablet nor on my Dell PC Wifi network. It appears to be a bad batch/series? I have emailed support again to see what they will do again. Initially the first unit I had would display Deeper in the Wifi list to connect to. Then it never appeared again and now only displays ESP_280119 which I know is the unit due to the serial number but you can never connect to it. It just fails when you try. This is what both units are doing now. I have emailed their support for an answer but I mentioned that it appears they have a bad batch of these and are not being certified tested leaving the factory.__________________________________Update: 2/13/20214 stars now. After contacting support, they determined my unit was faulty. They are sending a new replacement at no charge via UPS. Will see how the replacement is received and how it works.__________________________________Update: 2/8/2021 Changed from 1 to 2 star for now.After contacting Deeper support they (quickly, one day turn time) determined that the unit is to exchanged. Now that is what I call excellent service! I will update again once this issue is resolved and the replacement is received and how it works and what occurred with Deeper support.__________________________________Initial review: 2/4/2021Purchased a week ago. Only used it once and it worked perfectly. One week later it does not work anymore. Does not show in Wi-Fi anymore to connect to. Contacted support. Never seen a device fail so quickly with hardly any usage, disappointing.

At first, it's a bit confusing but when you use it a few times. It's fun and easy to use.Here's a few tips: Down load app; Fish Deeper it's a basic app for Deeper start on your cellphone. Follow easy instructions from your Deeper. Once at lake or pond. Cast deeper into 3 feet or higher water so it can connect. Make sure your wifi is connected to deeper start. For any reason it's not working perfectly.You need to do the following! (1) Very important to turn off your VPN if you have one. Go to settings and turn off VPN to internet once at lake or pond. (2) for better connection do this. Go to settings on your cellphone and go to Apps. Hit symbol app, then hit storage, clear cache. Repeat all app symbols and clear cache. Especially the internet and wifi apps. This will make your cellphone faster and easier to connect to wifi on your cellphone on to your Deeper start. (3) Go to settings on cellphone, go to Notifications; Turn ON; DO NOT DISTURB if you have one? (4) for any reason it does not want to work: turn off internetOnce you play with it a few times. You will have a blast. Remember! The batteries used on most devices are lipo batteries. After used the battery needs to be at 45-50 percent power (storage mode). Not in used, To maintain and help your battery last for many years.For fishing line? I was using 40lbs braided line on a baitcasting rod and reel.Happy fishing!
