A brilliant series of science books
This book was written by Franklyn M Branley and his blurb at the back of the book states, "...was Astronomer Emeritus and former Chairman of the American Museum-Hayden Planetarium. In 1960, he originated the Let's-Read-and-Find-Out Science series, dedicated to explaining science to young children and encouraging them to explore their world. Dr Branley was the author of over 150 science books for children." That pretty much says it all - and excellent book written by a well respected expert in his field and presented in a really child friendly format with an activity and fun facts at the back to help reinforce the knowledge they have just gleaned from this book. It is aimed at 5-9 year olds but is so clearly presented that even me, a 37 year old mum, found it enjoyable and full of information (I learnt a lot!). Just be aware that this series of books is written for the American market and some information, terminology or illustrations are geared specifically to them but this in no way detracts from such a wonderfully written and produced book.

My son likes it more than I do. He loves it.
It's a good book, but it would be great to have a UK, decimal version. It also needs updating. Pluto isn't a planet, guys. Come on! Keep up. Also, you can't walk on Jupiter -- it's a GAS giant. But it's a kids' book, so fair play. Same with 'Gravity is a mystery'. Actually, Einstein's theory of general relativity pretty much nails it, but I'm not explaining THAT to my 4yo :-)

Misses the point for kids
This book goes into too much detail about gravity not just holding us down but holding us down towards the centre of the earth. There’s the analogy about what would happen if you drilled a hole through the centre of the earth which isn’t terribly relatable. Aldo then gravity on different planets. Not enough about gravity making things fall and even about on the moon where there’s less gravity, why astronauts have to wear weights in their shoes. Like explaining gcse physics to a 7 yo. And American weights

Would be great for older children 6/7
Found this a little complicated for my primary 1 class. Would be great for older children 6/7.

Don't bother
The main mystery being - how did we ever believe this "THEORY" anyway, hilarious. It more or less opens with the statement "No one knows what gravity is". I can tell you with one statement. What goes up, must come down. There. More useful info in this review than in newtons entire lifes work. P,s. Newton was a black magician and alchemist. It didn't mention that in the book though. Shame

My six year old has got me to read this more then once so that’s a win. Does a good job of explaining gravity for a six year old and prompts lots of questions.
