Look No Further! - M.R.S. Rheumatology Made Ridiculously Simple IN ACTION!!! Lupus Systemic Lupus Erythematous (SLE) is an autoimmune disease with a wide range of clinical presentations. It affects 0.1-0.25% of the population, depending on the area of the globe and gender/ethnicity. SLE can involve nearly any organ system. Thus, SLE is brought up in the differential of a long list of symptoms. This is especially true if a young African-American female presents with multiple complaints, since SLE is more common in this population; but importantly, SLE can involve any ethnicity at any age. Anti-Inflammatory Medications Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are used to rapidly decrease inflammation. These medications are widely used for a variety of conditions, even non-inflammatory conditions, such as osteoarthritis. NSAIDs exert their effect by inhibiting cyclooxygenases (COX-1 and COX-2), both of which are important in the inflammatory cascade. NSAIDs are not given as long-term monotherapy in autoimmune disease, since they are not thought to be potent enough to actually halt the disease progression or stop damage to the joints. NSAIDs are often given as an adjuvant to other treatments, to minimize pain. Disease-Modifying Anti-Rheumatic Drugs (DMARDs) are a category of unrelated medications used for a variety of autoimmune conditions. Unlike NSAIDS and steroids, which treat the acute inflammation but do not prevent progression of disease, DMARDs may slow down the progression of the disease through a variety of mechanisms that inhibit the production of more cells (cellular turnover). Pediatric Rheumatology Slipped capital femoral epiphysis is a common cause of hip pain in a (usually obese) child. The capital epiphysis slips away from the femur along the growth plate, causing hip (usually groin) pain. The x-ray is classically described as the ice cream slipping off a cone. X-ray Erosion of RA Over Time Review: Great Study Aid ‼️👍🏾 - I learned about this line of books from being in grad school. I had “Clinical Pharm Made Ridiculously Simple!” I love how it streamlines information and makes studying easier. Review: Really makes Rheumatology Simple - I briefly skimmed this book in preparation for my part 1 residency exams and for a few days, I was a Rheumatology expert. Things that I had heard floating around but had no exposure to, like Still's Disease or Macrophage Activation Syndrome are covered, though briefly. Very short and readable, but deceptively informative. A great primer.

Awesome review book for rheumatology disorders
Gives you the bare bones for learning rheumatology for a new nurse. We have several of these books at our office. Not really comprehensive as their are so many rheumatology disorders but it gives you a great initial understanding. Vendor was great.

Good for resource
I have been in rheumatology for many years and would recommend this to physician extenders such as PA or ARNP even medical assistants or even your office managers to help them understand what we do in practice.

Easy to read
Quick, easy read! If you are an aspiring rheumatologist I think this book does an excellent job of covering the basics. More granular details for those in/approaching fellowship can be found in other publications (rheumatology secrets is my personal fav)

Makes a complex topic easy to understand.
This is as good a book as one can find for learning the principles of rheumatology. He makes complex immunology and arcane clinical presentations very approachable. Adam has a knack for explaining things (and his lectures are pretty good, too!)

Easy to understand and when shown to my Rheumatologist RN boss, she was amazed at how useful and well written it was, also bought it for others she knew it would help new to the field.
