Got me hooked on tie-dying!
I love this kit! It was very easy to use and turned out to be a lot of fun. After the first kit, I bought several more to practice the art and share it with my friends through tie-dye parties. Having gone through 3 full kits (and made a few mistakes), I have some tips to share to maximize your success:Wondering what kit to buy? If you get just 1, I would recommend "carousel" because this has the darkest colors that give the most "vibrant" results. If you get 2 kits, "carousel" plus "rainbow" gives you 10 different colors, therefore the greatest choice when you are making your shirts. Unfortunately, you can only get orange if you buy the "luau" or "neon" kits. For some reason, the 5-bottle kits are the cheapest per gram of dye (cheaper than the refill kits that don't even have bottles). Wait for them to go on sale, the price on Amazon varies a lot from one week to the next. Can you really get 30 shirts from one kit? Yes. But they won't be 30 adult 2XL. And you have to plan ahead--use all of the colors in the kit, dilute some of the colors, and catch the drips in a basin to re-use. I usually dye a half-and-half mix of adult and child shirts together and end up with 30 from a full kit.Can you dilute the colors? Yes, some are very amenable to dilution. Some of the best looking items I have made are serial dilutions of just a single color. These colors tolerate dilution very well: black, purple, turquoise. These colors tolerate a modest amount of dilution: blue, fuchsia, violet, lime, royal blue. These colors don't dilute well (don't bother trying): red, orange, yellow, teal. I do the dilutions in glass jars and use a plastic funnel to get the dye back into the bottle.Best dye technique. Put the tip of the bottle in contact with the shirt before you squeeze. Put the tip in between the folds. After you think you are finished with the piece, check between the folds to make sure that you don't see white; if you do, go back and dye the insides of the folds. After wrapping in cling-wrap, squeeze the piece--this also reduces excess white. Dye should not be dripping off of the piece or staining your gloves--if so, you are using too much dye.Finishing the piece. The directions on the kit say to wait a couple of hours to let the dye set. This is not a good idea. If you only wait a couple of hours, you will lose most of your dye down the drain and you will be shocked at how light and faded your piece looks. Much better to use the basic principles of chemistry to your advantage: remember, time and concentration drive the reaction forward, so wait as long as you can, and then lay the piece out to dry without washing. I wait a week, then spread the pieces out on the lawn to dry in the sunlight. After that, I run the whole batch through the rinse cycle in the washing machine about 6-8 times (until the water looks clear), then line dry, then wash in a normal wash cycle (with soap). This way, the finished piece comes out almost as dark as when you dyed it. And you can skip the hand-rinsing that you see in a lot of YouTube newbie videos, that is just too painful and there is no advantage to it.Be creative and have fun! There are some very good YouTube videos to teach you how to do this, just hunt around, you will find them.

Great kit!
I thought these colors meshed really well together. For some reason the lavender looks gray in my pictures but in person, it is just a very pale lavender with no gray undertones. These colors worked because they didn’t blend and get muddy like the other Tulip kits I’ve purchased. I’m not sure if that’s the colors or just me being careful not to oversaturate or mix colors. The Aegean Sea color that looks gray in the stock photos is actually a lovely sea green color. It’s like if army green and teal got together and had a baby, that baby would be named Aegean Sea. I am pleased with this kit. I only left the dye on for one hour because I heard that it makes the colors look more pastel. And I wanted a softer tie dye. Honestly I can’t tell a difference in that strategy. The turquoise and purple are as vibrant as the turquoise and purple I’ve left on for 12-24 hours in previous tie dye projects. I’ve been tie dying shirts all summer going through this craze with my kids, and one recommendation I have is that you treat your fabric with soda ash prior to dying. Buy a pound of it on Amazon for about $8, put the whole pound in a bucket of mop bucket water, and let your shirts sit in it for 30 minutes. Take shirts out and wring them out completely, then dye fabric immediately while damp. I swear the soda ash makes the colors so much more vibrant! My first tie dye project I did not do the soda ash and my colors were very dull. Almost like a tie dye shirt you’ve owned for 15 years. Just kinda bland. The soda ash really works and I’m honestly not sure how but it makes a noticeable difference. I also have been letting the shirts soak in vinegar after dying and rinsing, but vinegar doesn’t do anything to make the colors set or stay. It’s a wasted step. My shirts come out vibrant and stay that way for many washings regardless if I “set” the final product with vinegar or not! Have fun! Swirl pattern is the easiest. Crumple is cool but you have to be careful to not really mix the colors as you’re applying the dye all over. I strategically placed the dye all over but was careful not to overlap colors. Overlapping a bit is ok but too much makes the final product a big ole blob of mixed colors. Sounds cool except the colors will not be the colors you bought. Fuchsia and green will somehow make a dark muddy violet. Turquoise and purple will make a murky navy violet. It’s best to try the swirl or some sort of stripe pattern where the colors stay separate.

The best
After trying other brands of tye dye kits this brand is by far the best colors are vibrant and long lasting and bottles are perfect size. Unlike some that send miniature bottles.

Fun, vibrant, easy to use
Easy to use, great results. Vibrant colors after soaking for 36 hrs, longer may have been even better. The magenta left specks of darker color, which is why I took a star off. But it may have just needed additional shaking? Some of the bottles did have a bit of dye on the outside, so be careful of that. I liked that the kit came with a set of colors that goes together well.

Easy to use, beautiful colors!
Bought these to tie dye some stuff for work. What an easy process, and I was pleased to realize there's enough in there for a second batch! They include extra dye packets. The colors all look really nice together, and if they mingle it doesn't create any browns. The instructions are easy to follow and I feel pretty good about what I produced, despite the fact that I haven't done tie dye in over a decade. I dyed 5 shifts, 6 pairs of underoos, and 5 canvas bags with the first half of the kit.

Loved this tie dye. The colors were so good!

Perfect
Tulip dyes are easy to use and stay put. We did towels and bathmats for a rental property. I cut the strength to half and it was the perfect colour for us. It didn't run in the wash and didn't fade.

Great colour pay off!
This kit was exactly what I was after. It can get abit messy but best to do it outside. The colours are exactly as I expected, first time tie-dying and this comes woth everything. Extra dye packets, elastic bands, multiple pairs of gloves. Great value for your money.
