Plug & Play
This Review is For: Cable Matters Plug & Play USB to Ethernet Adapter with PXE, MAC Address Clone Support (Ethernet to USB 2.0 Adapter, Ethernet Adapter for Laptop) Supporting 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Network in Black By: Cable Matters Store =============================================== Bought this as an Amazon Deal and it was shipped and received quickly. Inserted it into a USB2 port, connected an Ethernet cable and it worked immediately - didn't even have to reboot. However, a subsequent Windows Update did download a newer driver. My application: The onboard Ethernet module on my old Dell desktop Windows 10 computer had stopped working, apparently due to lack of driver updates. The wireless USB network adapter I was using had occasional problems penetrating the thick plaster walls in my old home, but has been retired and the computer now has a reliable connection to my network using this device. Very Slow Speeds: The specs only mention that USB 2.0 speeds are up to 480 MB/s. Providing that theoretical USB 2.0 maximum speed is deceiving, as large-file transfers FROM this computer are just over 11 MB/s and average about 45 MB/s TO this computer. (For testing, the other computers had gigabit onboard Ethernet modules.) Some other reviews mention various non-performance issues but I haven't had any. None with reliability, Internet connections or for streaming content. (My home network consists of an AX router and CAT5E cabling and is connected to a Comcast cable feed.) I haven't had this device very long and will try to remember to update this review if any issues are encountered. It Works, if you don't mind slow speeds.: Although the measured data transfer rates are a bit slow, I view this device as an inexpensive fix for a non-critical problem. If you require faster speeds and have a USB3 port, you may want to look for a USB3 version of this device, or simply use a wireless USB network adapter. However, for what it is, I recommend this device.

Works great with MacBooks
This is great for strictly Ethernet purposes. Worked instantly on a MacBook Air 2012 with good upload and download speeds that I was looking for. With a Windows HP is took a moment for correspondence with some broken connection at times. But, once I did some setting adjustments it worked. I’ll rate this a 4 out of 5 based on being easily assembled and connection. Longterm I would suggest an Ethernet cable with multiport USB’s (if using on an Air), as it restricts your capabilities of additional attachments.

Go Cheap, All USB Ethernet Cables Will Eventually Fail
Cable is somewhat thin, however all USB Ethernet adapter cables will eventually break, so go cheap, buy Cable Matters adapters. Stays relatively or completely cold while in use, the 10/100/1000 model gets slightly warm. Cable Matters USB Ethernet 10/100 is made in Thailand, while the 10/100/1000 is made in China. Amazing
This device saved me. As I work from home and I didn't realize my laptop needed this to make it connect directly to my router. Still have it and I love it. Not issue and connection is easy to install. It fit perfect and very reliable.

Missing CD makes for tough installation
I am not sure why, but this product was shipped to me without the CD that has the drivers. Fortunately, you can download them via the cablematters website (http://www.cablematters.com/cs-Downloads.aspx). A word of warning though, for Windows 8+ machines, Windows will try to automatically install realtech drivers to get this device working, and that will screw it all up - in order to avoid this you must copy the downloaded driver file from the cablematters website, (www.cablematters.com/cs-Downloads.aspx) and paste it over your realtech driver file in the Windows/System32/drivers section of your device. Upon rebooting the device will work great. Now, if you are tech savvy, this is not a problem....but if you barely understood what I just typed, you would be well advised to buy a different product - one that comes with the installation disk. Now, on to the product itself - it appears to work really well once installed, and pegs out at 10/100, just as advertised.
