Accurate and easy to use, super convenient but very difficult to use in daylight
I used the Laser Dimension Master 165-BT to repeat some measurements I recently made for my home. I am only interested in making point to point linear measurements and did not use the fancy features like for calculating area or sending data over bluetooth. Here are the results:THE GOOD: -- LASER EASILY SEEN INSIDE: I made some measurements across the longest side of my home, about 55' and from that distance I could easily see the laser dot and could quickly make an accurate measurement. -- QUEUES UP MEASUREMENTS: Its nice in that the device will show your last 3 measurements onscreen and just continue to queue them as you proceed. -- WORKS ON ALL SURFACES: I reflected the laser off all sorts of different surfaces, drywall, textured ceiling, carpet, finished woodwork, even tree leaves. -- GOOD WARNINGS: If the laser moves to much it will not make a false measurement and give you a fail warning. -- RECHARGEABLE: The units batteries are rechargeable and charging can be performed using the USB port and a cable is provided. -- MAKES ANGLE MEASUREMENTS: The unit will make angle measurements as well. You can lay it on a true flat surface and it will measure 0 degrees. Put it on its end and it will measure 90 degrees and everything in between. I really nice bonus featureTHE BAD: -- WONT WORK IN SUNLIGHT: The unit is really not meant for outside work. While it will work fine if the laser is using in reasonably dark shaded areas, It almost impossible to see the laser dot in bright or sunlight areas and even more so the farther you are a away. The photos show the laser dot only 4' away in a outside shaded area and then in a 50% shaded area. You can see the laser dot has all but disappeared in the sunlight area. -- DISPLAY HARD TO READ OUTSIDE: Outside especially the display is hard to read. Its not very bright and the screen is very reflective. Id had to cup my hand on the screen to block outside light and angle it so away from reflecting other light sources. -- COULD USE A MOUNT: Like a threaded socket to mount on a tripod would have been a nice convenience.

Inaccurate measurements
Not good if you want more precise measurements.Every measurement it took was off by an inch or two, calculated by comparing with a tape measure. This isnt acceptable if you want accurate measurements in your trade. Also, you must account for the measurement of the device itself if you're not in a spot where you have an opening in a doorway etc to back into in order to make up for the length of the device, as you can only measure from the front of the device to the next wall... not bounce from wall to wall. Hope I explained that properly. Obviously this is an issue with any device of its type in comparison to a laser level measure. So you will always need to add the length of the device to your measurements for more accuracy, however that doesnt help much when everything is off by an inch or two to start and you won't know exactly how much it is off by until you double check it with a tape measure. So, it's a surprise! Lol.Theres a function to replicate wall size so if you're in a room that has more than 1 wall of the same length, you can replicate that wall (without use of the device to measure it) and itll calculate for you. The bad/lazy thing with that feature is that it is RARE to have 2 walls that are exactly the same measurement.. they're typically off by at least a hair or two. So, it all depends on how much of a professional and accurate device you need and how precise you want things to be. When measuring for a layout, sometimes that hair or two difference ends up being much more noticeable in the end, so striving for accuracy is ideal. If you take pride in your work and getting things as square and accurate as possible then this isnt the device you'll want. It's ok for a quick rough estimate but for precision, accuracy, and/or a perfectionist it just wont do. If you start a job sloppy, itll end sloppy and you'll get call backs and need to fix sh*t.. we dont get call backs.. it's done right the first time 100% and as perfect as humanly possible, so this device is a no go for us.I'll give it 2 stars based on its ability to get a rough estimate but I see no need for something like this when you can use a device that will actually give you accuracy.
