straightforward build process, extremely sturdy
Building this lightweight shelving unit isn't terrible. It's straightforward and goes up quick. The rated weight limit is 4,500lbs overall. I feel like this unit can easily handle that. It includes easy to install tip protection. I have two complaints. First, installing the cross members involves using tiny nuts and bolts. Installing these is a pain. But they aren't optional because they are crucial to stability. I feel like wingnuts would be far easier. The instructions are easy for someone like me who is mechanically inclined, but they are very small printing and lacking in precise details for someone who hasn't built shelves before. And finally, I feel these are very over priced for the materials included. The right price should be around $120. And I'd buy 4 more at that price.

Very Solid & Sturdy
I ordered two of these and while it added up to a lot of $$, I'm very happy with the choice. They were easy to assemble and they are very, very sturdy. The garage is finally organized.

Sturdy, easy to assemble
This is a good, solid shelf unit, and very easy to put together - with one key note. People have commented on the more difficult part of the assembly that has some small nuts used to fasten what the product calls "stabilizers". These are short metal pieces that run perpendicular to the shelves. I simply omitted using these at all, as I find the shelves very stable and sturdy without them, including for pretty heavy loads. See for yourself: you can put the shelves on, then see if you think you need stabilizers for one or more of the shelves. My guess is for most loads, you won't need them at all. And if you want to add them, they're easy to add as a last or later step, and just for the shelf or shelves you think need them.

Overall I am Please
The shelves came in a flat box and part of the packaging had come apart inside the box. The packaging needs to be better designed for actually shipping by carriers who are rough on boxes. Fortunately the pieces came through without being bent.I have to say the assembly instructions booklet sucked big time. The illustrations were way too small and the illustrations were so small it was hard to figure out at times. But after I did figure it out it went together with ease. The illustration of how to put the midsection supports fit together needs to be re-illustrated. Also the midsection stack-up needs a vertical tie to strengthen the one weak part in the shelving system. The one single wall tie that is provided to secure the shelves to the wall is a joke. The shelving is designed for 5000 pounds per shelf and the tie was designed for something more like a light weight shelf set. It needs 4 wall supports and not one. Two at the top and two at the top of the mid section to strengthen the only weak place in the shelves. Now that I named what needs to be changed, I have to say the shelves are overall very well built. Very sturdy except where the top and bottom sections tie together. I made my own supports so I am good to go.I would not return the shelves if I had the chance because they are exactly what I wanted.I have to say this is a lot of shelving for the money.

Heavy Duty Rack Strong Material!
This order and rack are incredible! First, I received it in 2 days. The box wasn't beat up and all parts and pieces were included. The Amazon driver even delivered it at 7:00 AM and said a friendly good morning. This is one sturdy rack. It is NOT cheap materials. I was amazed. because after reading other reviews I was hesitant. The metal shelves were wrapped in shrink wrap and with padding. There were a few minor scuff marks on several of the metal bars, but I just put them in the back. This is better than the HDX rack that HD has and it's not flimsy or weak like some reviews stated. You can't go wrong with the rack and the price. Thanks Amazon Basics!

Has reformed my one closet!
I live in a 140-year-old house that has one closet, and that is only because the previous owner enclosed a porch to create a bathroom (the house had no indoor bathroom prior to that), a pantry, and a closet. Needless to say, the closet had become impossible to even walk into in the course of 20 years, raising 2 children here! I pulled everything out and my neighbor helped me to set up these shelves. It is not hard, but I'm very small! I am still in the process, but it's amazing to have space to organize things in boxes onto shelves! The shelves are super sturdy and hold lots of large and medium plastic boxes!

Avoid this Shelf
So many things wrong with this, but i really needed a 10 foot shelf under 5 feet tall, so I re-engineered it.Read the other reviews and they built it wrong and the instructions are terrible.I would not use this for Aquariums, this is barely usable for light duty storage, if you can get it put together.Poor design with a sloped bar on the brackets that makes using the shelf stabilizer bars impossible without drilling the bracket holes out so the screws fit through them, most people seem to lay them on top of of the shelf bracket which is why they keep falling off. You might as well super glue the stabilizer bars in place.Has anyone from Amazon tried to build this unit? What should have taken an hour took 7 hours and drilling out the too tight holes for the stabilizer bars, which are integral to the construction of the shelf.I bought the Double Post version and the directions and parts were only for the "single post" version, which is really 4 posts and to split the shelf is 8 posts, but only has the plastic feet for one side of the split unit. Would it have cost too much for the cheap plastic caps for the version I purchased?Avoid and this unit, it should be quickly replaced by Amazon to one that is better documented and the parts actually fit the unit. This is an accident waiting to happen.
