One fine piece of gear..
This is one Awesome Reel.. I gave both my Boys one for Christmas. They were a Hit.. My sons stopped opening other packages just to check them out. We ended up passing them around to everyone at the party. Here is why they are so great. Top quality appearance, power handle is Beefy and the handle is a large ball which fits well in everyone's hands. The drag is Super smooth and the action is precision the infinite stop is perfict. As you crank the handle it stops exactly at that point with absolutely no slip. I would fish bass all the way up to Albicore, Bluefin and Yellowfin tuna up to 50 lbs. my sons want to go for Yellowtail and I know this reel will handle it no problem...

Alaska Salmon Fishing
Would give this reel a 6 star if I could! Smoothest action I have ever had in a reel. Took this real salmon fishing in Alaska. Caught 16 salmon (Silver, chum, pink and a king) weight ranged from 7 - 16 lbs... reel handled like a charm. I bought a BF-55. It holds about 225 yards of 20 lb braided line. The bait feeder is like what every other review says, kind of quiet but you can certainly hear it loud enough to know if a fish is taking the bait. Awesome Reel!!! Will be purchasing another!

Looks good, we'll see...
I unboxed the Trio BF-80 today, it's definitely an impressive looking reel. When I first tried to crank the reel it had a weird rattle and then locked up on me. Instantly I was thinking I would be sending it back. I took off the spool and re-seated it My guess is something just wasn't aligned correctly when they put it together at the factory. I've been reeling it off and on all morning now and it has been smooth. The baitrunner feature also appears to be working great, it's very smooth. I'll be giving it a workout at the coast all next week so I'll know for sure if it's working correctly. I will say that the Shimano Baitrunner 8000OC I have seems to be an overall better quality reel than this Okuma. The Shimano is just smooth as can be and this Okuma is just okay. Kind of weird considering this is a 10 bearing reel and the Shimano I believe is 4. The Okuma isn't even all that much cheaper than the Shimano. If this reel doesn't work out I'll add a another Shimano Baitrunner to my collection. I will edit this review next weekend after I have put the reel into action.06-30-16 update:Used the reel a few times at Surfside Jetty this week, didn't get into any large fish to test the drag. Everything seems to be working well on it. I don't like it as much as the Shimano but I'm probably just being picky. They should make the click in baitrunner mode louder, it's not easy to hear. I will say that I absolutely hate the foam crank handle. It makes the whole handle feel weak and wobbly when you're reeling. They need to switch that to a hard handle that has a more positive feel. Hopefully next week I can hook into something large and put the drag to the test.

big time okuma fan
I have used mine for saltwater fishing and some river fishing. Nothing bad I can say about this reel. Super high quality. Really good looking. Great drag. Feels really solid. I used to use cheaper reels, but it seemed like every time I took someone fishing, they would damage the handles on my reels. Not using proper techniques to reel in a fish or trying to crank the handle to get a snag loose. It is real easy to damage a inexpensive reel that way. With these reels, I don't have those worries. Would highly recommend this reel.

Click gear is SOFT metal REEL FAILED
Background: Bought this reel 2 1/2 years ago and have used it as a bOAT GUEST/Backup rod fishing for large blue catfish (20 to 60 lb norm) and occasional striped bass. Probably been used 20 times max and caught 100 to 200 fish.Problem: The reel will not lock up any more due to the "click gear" notches being deformed. Warranty was only one year, so I took it apart to fix it myself. I found the 4 click gear notches badly deformed allowing the bait runner pawl to skip and the spool to freewheel until it grabbed another notch. Reel is unusable. PART IS ON ORDER. I'll update this review with pics of failed part when I replace it.Analytical functionality: When the bait runner is engaged, a metal pawl is disengaged from one of the 4 square notches in the click gear - refer to picture of what a new click gear looks like. With bait runner engaged, line drag is controlled by the knob on the back of the reel. The bait runner pawl will re-engage the click gear and lock up the spool shaft when you flip the bait runner lever back down or start cranking the reel. If you have a fish peeling out line in bait runner mode and lock it up to set the hook the click gear is what stops all that momentum and transfers torque to the regular drag. When the click gear notches deformed, the reel jumps in and out of the notches and freewheels between lockups. Not good.Summary and recommendation: Click gear metal appears to be soft aluminum or similar soft metal which did not hold up under what I would consider little use. I wouldn't expect this reel to function properly very far beyond the one year warranty period due to this one component. It is a pretty complex teardown to get to and replace the click gear to the point it's not likely a candidate for do-it-yourself repair. I DON'T RECOMMEND THIS REEL DUE TO SOFT CLICK GEAR METAL.21 May 2023 update. Received replacement parts from Okuma. Positive is fast, 5 day parts delivery. Uploaded pics of original damaged click gear alongside the new one. Damage was limited to the click gear. Removal and replacement turned out to be fairly easy. Refer to parts list. You remove the drag rubber ring (616) and click retainer (613). You can then use a small scribe to hooh and slide the entire bait runner drag assembly out followed by the click gear (609). It took 15 minutes to complete the repair which included degreasing, cleaning and lubricating parts prior to reassembly. I would think a do-it-yourselfer with moderate mechanical skills could accomplish this repair. I'm going to stand by my prior recommendation to not buy this reel due to the soft click gear. A reel at this price point shouldn't have such a bad, single point failure component. The reel is unusable when this fails.

Great Buy
Everytime I buy an Okuma product I'm always surprised at the quality you get for the price. The trio is no exception to this. First off the drag system is just amazing, extremely smooth, I was testing it out with a friend with my surf casting rig and had the dragged maxed. When we started to stress it the knot joining the braid to mono snapped (50lb mono to 80lb braid). Have brought it out a few times and cast beautifully, but the only problem is the baitfeeder clicker is almost non existent.
