Awesome mini boombox!
This mini boombox turned out to be much smaller, yet have much bigger sound than I expected. Physically, its to cute and tiny, but has some weight to it. The overall build quality feels solid. The buttons all feel very sturdy, with no mushiness that often plagues smaller electronics. The combination volume knob / power switch is my favorite part. First, it's made of knurled metal, NOT plastic. It has a nice, positive click when turning the unit on or off. The sweep has a very smooth resistance that is very satisfying. I hate any music product that uses buttons instead of a knob to control volume. Another cool thing about it is that when you rotate the volume control, it also adjusts volume on your phone, when in bluetooth mode. Performance wise, this little guy is extremely impressive. I wasn't expecting much according to the manufacturer's specs. This is listed as pumping a blistering 4 watts through dual 1.5" speakers. Let me tell you, the sound is CRYSTAL CLEAR! Stereo separation is also top notch (when in bluetooth mode, the radio is mono). The bass response isn't anything to write home about, but the overall sound quality is extremely clear and balanced. The volume is plenty loud for casual listening. You would probably struggle to hear music using this in a production factory setting. But, in a moderately quiet room, or out on the deck grilling, this radio really shines. I think it would also be a great pick to take camping, or to the beach. The digital FM tuner is surprisingly very good. I was picking up stations that I usually have a hard time tuning in on other radios. The omission of AM frequencies didn't bother me at all, I never listen to AM. This can also play from a usb stick or micro SD card. It can even record to an SD card if that's something you're into. I didn't bother with any of these features. I just use it for radio and bluetooth. Once connected to your phone, you can play, pause, and skip tracks directly from the unit. All in all, I'm very impressed with this tiny radio. I'll be on the lookout for more products from this company.

This little player is phenomenal!
So I was looking for a birthday gift for someone older who wanted to be able to play music and audiobooks from a device with controls that he is more familiar with than modern options. This player turned out to be perfect! It looks like an old-style radio/cassette player, which makes it more user-friendly for older folks. It has the familiar volume/on-off knob, buttons, and antenna, but inside the classic cladding, there are modern options that younger generations can appreciate as well. It has all the playback features you would expect: play, stop, skip forward/backwards to the next track, and skip within the track. The screen is well lit and easily readable.Yes, it can play FM radio (it works well!), but you can also connect it to your phone or tablet via Bluetooth or USB cable or use a USB or micro USB drive. You can even record with this thing! And the sound is good quality and surprisingly loud! Oh, and the battery is rechargeable in case you want to take it with you as you move about.I'm very impressed by this player and the price can't be beat! The only thing I wish is that it came in more colors!

EASY PAIRING TO COMPUTER OR PHONE
The radio was delivered on time right to my apartment doorway. The item was boxed with packing paper to prevent it frfrom sliding around. The radio was in the showfloor box.I could hardly wait to pair it up with my phone so I could give it a test in the bluetooth mode and give it a listening test on some Bach choral music. The radio showed up right away in pair new devices on my Android Moto phone.Next I told the Google assistant to play some JS Bach choral music. What was selected by Amazon Music was the Christmas Cantatas...simply beautiful works. The speakers are peaky in sound reproduction. While the vocalists are quite clear there is a pronounced boost in the audio curve at about 5 Khz giving an extra kick to the sibalance. The bass response is really limited, just enough to give you a hint of an instrument playing.the mid range was were adequate and the distortion content was fairly low. Keep the volume down and you will not incur listening fatigue. I listened to the entire Bach composition....I love Bach. The FM radio works quite well. I tested the scan and manual tuning for the discovery of available stations and the selectivity of the tuner. It was quite good with very little IF interference. I picked up FM stations at ninety miles distance from the whip antenna on the radio. I didn't measure the sensitivity but it is quite satisfactory. What I like is the compactness, the easy pairing, and the apparent sensitivity of the radio. What I don't like is the mediocrity of the monaural audio and overall sound quality coming from the two speakers. The radio would fit in a picnic basket, pack in a suitcase for a trip thus providing late night listening at a campsite. Keep in mind that the radio is FM only. There is no circuitry fo Amplitude modulation. AM stations dhave the ability to travel further due to various forms of atmospheric and layer propagation. So you will be doing your static free listening not too far from a metropolis. The FM band is not to my liking because of over processed audio that makes for a total lack of warmth and transparency. Digital processing is not as forgiving for over driving as the old analog methods including the wonderful warmth and forgiveness of magnetic tape.So the best test of the sound quality of this little radio was what I heard from Amazon music. The radio is amplifier is notably taxed at full volume. It performs at a point above what you might expect of a radio of its size and price. It is not an old Grundig with a push pull amplifier driving a big smooth sounding oval speaker. With the volume set to max on this radio distortion is evident.say, In my opinion it is a pretty slick radio, not top quality but still, at this price and for overall value it performs really well. It is what it is, and commands a solid five star rating.Note:Here now is an edit to my previously published review. I chose to edit because I wanted to add a star for overall value. In the days since my first evaluation of the SM-618 Digital radio I have noted other features as described to be good to excellent. I found myself actually taking the radio with me as I go out and about...clearly paired to my phone.I also found an amazing number of 4 FM radio stations that bring to my audiophile ears audio that is clean and transparent. If they put it out there the SM-618 does a good job of reciprocating. For the price I think you would find it difficult to find anything on the market better designed than this compact performance package. So now we have a five star winner.\End edit\
