Exciting Lloyd Price / Mr Personality

"Mr. Personality" was the second album I bought as a teenage and it not only introduced me to R&B but also convinced me there was something out there besides American Bandstand pop. So I was delighted to find that Mr. Price's first two albums have been released on CD. The old vinyl album still sounds fantastic, so I compared and found the remastered digital version does an excellent job of preserving the liveliness of the horns, both brass and woodwinds. Recommended to anyone who remembers (or would like to be introduced) to early R&B as it transitioned from jazz into what became mainstream.

I bought this based on another review saying the sound was good. It is listenable but sounds muted on some songs (Stagger Lee) Go with the Lloyd Rocks on Ace, Lloyd Price Greatest Hits on MCA, or the 2 Specialty comps all available on Amazon. This CD has a nice booklet.

Was a waste of money for me.

Apres un debut de carriere etincelant chez "specialty"en 1952 avec le mega tube "lawdy miss clawdy"et d'autres suites,price s'envole quelques temps apres en coree pour l'armee pendant 3 ans ou il se produit avec un big band, de retour aux states il a l'idee de melanger le rythm'n'blues de ses debuts avec un orchestre de cuivres et oriente sa musique plus vers un son jazz ce qui donna ses 2 premiers albums enregistres pour abc-paramount en 1959 ou il reprend certains de ses succes anterieurs "lawdy miss clawdy" "mailman blues" " oh,oh,oh" "i wish your picture was you" et compose d'autres reussites comme "stagger lee" "why" "talking about love" ou il renoue avec le succes en pleine periode rock'n'roll, price enregistre aussi des chansons plus orientees soul comme "personality" "you need love" , pop comme "i'm gonna get married" , blues comme "dinner for one" , ou meme des standards jazz "all of me" " a foggy day" avec une aisance deconcertante.pascal49

If you're thinking of buying this CD be please note that there are TWO CDs available wlth almost identical covers, that look the same but are not. The cover of one has the extra words ''plus Mr Personality'' added in white lettering. That is the CD that contains two full LPs. This version, without the extra ''plus Mr Personality'' has one LP, plus bonus tracks. It has a total of 20 tracks, as opposed to the 24 on the 2LP version. Both CDs contain the 12 tracks from the LP 'The Exciting Lloyd Price', but only 3 of the tracks from the 'Mr Personality' LP appear on this 20 track CD.

I came accross Lloyd Price by accident when I heard "Lawdy Miss Clawdy". I liked the song and so decided to buy a cd of his music. Am I glad I picked this one. It's two of his early albums squeezed onto one cd with his main hits being featured. The sound quality, considering these were recorded in the 50's, is superb as they are in stereo, something I didn't think existed back then! As for the music, you can hear elements of Blues, Rock and Roll and swing in this collection and there are many highlights here aside from the well known tracks. A much underated artist, this cd is a great representation of how the three styles of music evolved over a relatively short time. I highly recommend it and I know it will put a smile on your face.

Buena música de finales de los 50's que podrán disfrutar tanto los seguidores como aquellos que se quieran iniciar en este cantante y trasladarse a aquella época a través de las canciones
