Revised review after testing replacement - Really impressive customer service!
I originally posted the negative review below, and almost immediately after posting it, the owner of the company not only issued me a credit, but he sent me an email acknowledging they had a manufacturing problem. He also offered to send me out an immediate replacement, and asked that I call him personally. So, I called, and he answered - on a Sunday. As background, I bought this solenoid over a year ago, but had not installed it until last weekend, so I had exceeded the warranty period and they were under no requirement to address my concerns. I was very impressed that he admitted they had a manufacturing/supplier problem and they were replacing the units. He explained that some people do not understand these types of valves are not intended to be energized (i.e. be kept in the on/open position) for an extended period of time. The valve is opened via an electromagnet which by their very nature will generate some heat over time. That is both entirely reasonable and in line with the additional research I had done. This was also in line with my particular need (to open a low-pressure LPG line in a boat/RV when cooking, and automatically shut off the supply when the switch is turned off). I also determined this is consistent with other solenoids. He went on to explain that there are better solutions for valves that need to be kept open for extended periods.I put in the replacement, and am happy to report that while the solenoid gets warm, it is much cooler than the first one, and the draw went from 2 amps on the first unit to about 1.2 amps on the replacement. As sailors, we are always concerned about battery draw as we sail for many hours without running the engine, so unnecessarily drawing down our battery bank is not something we want to do unnecessarily. In short, I am extremely impressed by someone who cares enough about their business to fix a problem even after the warranty period expires - and to be honest when a manufacturing or supply problem is discovered.I will now go out of my way to buy from US Solid in the future.ORIGINAL REVIEW:I bought this valve as I had to repair the system on my boat about a year ago. I finally got around to replacing my old solenoid which was quite rusty, but still worked. Upon hooking this up, it ran WAY hot, measuring over 180 degrees on the outside. Now I have to replace it immediately after putting it on. I see they no longer sell this unit.

Great 12V Solenoid actuated valve
This is not a ball valve, its more like a orifice controlled valve with a 1/8'' hole for liquids to flow through. I used it with a 90 gallon auxiliary tank plumbed into my fuel fill neck on a 22 ram 2500. It works great but you MUST put a inline fuel filter upstream of the valve or very small particles will plug the small orifice hole up. I might go up one size next time if the orifice hole is bigger. Its been very reliable and it has been left on over 24 hours multiple time on accident.

I almost sent it back; it works great!
I was doing work for my mother. Before I hooked everything up, I made sure I looked at the flow arrow on the side. I assembled everything and called my mother to witness the first use. The first problem as the pump wasn’t primed, but this was fixed quickly. Then…boom! It was working! Then I told mom to release the switch…she wasn’t pushing it.When she did push the switch, flow increased. I was angry. Mom said “break time!.I told my mom that I’m writing a review, while complaining about this switch. Then a light went on; I should check the flow arrow…I had installed it backward. I guess I should have recalled the great advice of “measure twice, cut once.” If I had doubled checked my work, I would have saved myself headache.

WARNING
Absolutely do NOT purchase! I purchased this and installed it on our sail boat as per the instructions and usage details as a replacement for the previous product (made by a US Company) which lasted over 15 YEARS.I removed the inner unit to inspect for any issues (see pictures) and I was appalled by how bad it was built. Not only is this definitely NOT a marine grade product but I would never trust this on ANY gas line.It isn’t even a matter of getting a “bad unit”. The entire build is/was completely irresponsible.DO NOT GIVE THIS TERRIBLE COMPANY YOUR MONEY!Zero stars!

It works fine for propane
We use it every day that we're on our boat to turn on/off the propane supply to the stove and we're happy with it. As they warned in the literature, it (the coil) gets hot with continuous use. We cooked Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners with it and it's still working fine. Note: I made the mounting bracket pictured but it does have 2 metric (sorry; I don't remember the size) mounting screw holes in the brass body which helps with mounting options.

Very good quality
Very well made valve which is working well. Has the mounting bolt points on the bottom which it appears the SS Solid valve do not so I had to return a couple of SS valves before realizing the brass ones have the mounting points but not the SS (at least the ones I looked at). This could be made clear in the description

WOrks great
I needed a gas valve for my boat. This has slightly more power draw but it works as it should. No more problem with the gas valve.
