Professional-Grade Bidirectional OBD2 Scanner with Outstanding Features
The Thinkcar ThinkScan 689 is clearly designed with professional auto mechanics and repair shops in mind, but it can also be a fantastic tool for serious DIY mechanics who have the knowledge to use its wide range of functions. For the average non-specialist user, much of the advanced functionality would likely go unused, but for those with the skills to utilise it, this scanner is an incredibly powerful piece of kit. What sets it apart from budget scanners is the sheer amount of information it provides. It picked up a glow plug issue on my 2017 BMW X6 that cheaper scanners had completely missed(something only ista reported). The bidirectional capability is a real game changer, allowing you to not only read data but also perform active tests and send commands to vehicle systems. The WiFi makes software updates effortless, and the ability to email reports directly from the scanner is a huge time-saver. The inbuilt Chrome browser is another handy addition, letting you quickly search for additional fault code details without needing a separate device. The VIN scan worked flawlessly every time, and the touchscreen is responsive and fluid.Practical touches include a robust design with impact protection, a hanger for the steering wheel, and a well-designed case that keeps the unit, charging cable and documents safe. Battery life is excellent, with convenient USB-C charging. Add to that lifetime free updates, and it’s a tool that will keep delivering long-term value.ProsTargeted at professionals but suitable for knowledgeable DIY mechanicsWiFi makes updates quick and easyCan email reports directly from the unitInbuilt Chrome browser for instant fault researchMuch more detail than budget scannersDetected faults cheaper scanners missed (e.g. BMW X6 glow plug issue)Bidirectional functionality is a real game changerExcellent battery life with USB-C chargingLifetime updates includedRobust build with impact protection and steering wheel hangerProtective case for storage and transportVIN scan worked with 100% successSmooth, responsive touch screenConsNone

Totally useful device whether you fix it your self or delegate to someone trained on it
Thinkcar ThinkScan 689 OBD2 Scanner:This will do more than just scan the car and list some codes for you and in the long run you will thank yourself for investing in it and your knowledge. It is a rough and ready device that is both small but large enough to have a lot of data on the screen at the same time.Where some people may use a laptop this comes in as an easier to handle alternative.I've used it on a Honda Civic and an M4 and I am waiting to see if I can get my hands on a truck to try the device on that too. Each operation has gone smoothly with no faults in the device itself. It has however found faults, and what I couldn't resolve myself, I felt better knowing that I had the details to be more specific at the garage.Having owned many BMW's my biggest issue with them is that one problem can multiply the number of faults pinging at you and depending on where you go for advice, you could end up down the wrong rabbit hole trying to fix something that doesn't need fixing. With this device I am pretty much getting right to the meat of things and leaving the bones well alone.

Very in depth scanner
Item received in good condition in a branded sealed box. There are many budget car scanners on the market these days that plug and play with your car and can help clear some faults etc but this is miles apart and a really tool for the serious car tinker at home or for a professional garage/mechanic to use.The unit itself is like a small ipad in size and design and has just so much information and tool at your disposal is quite amazing. The interface it operates is good and pretty friendly to navigate and helps to provide lots of data and information along with error codes and on a completely different level to the cheap versions on the market. This is really a tool that will pay for itself so quickly in the right trained hands. What I really like is the fact that once you have paid for the unit there are no other hidden charges, all updates for its lifetime are free which is excellent.Build quality of the unit is very good and once you get the hang of the menus and such its very in depth and gives so many options to work with. Its a large outlay but in the right well trained hands this could be a very useful piece of kit.

Great bit of professional equipment
Although this car scanner is more expensive than any I’ve purchased before, it is absolutely worth the investment. My previous most expensive scanner cost £150 with a £30 yearly subscription, but this one is on another level in terms of quality and functionality. It’s very easy to use — the screen is bright and clear, and the touch interface is as smooth as any modern tablet. I’ve already used it a few times and it has saved me money. For example, my mother-in-law needed a warning light turned off after some work was done on her car. The garage wanted to charge £50 just to plug in their machine, but I was able to diagnose the issue and clear the light myself with ease. This scanner is capable of far more than I currently know how to use, but over time I’m confident I’ll gain new skills and take advantage of its advanced features. To summarise:• Very user-friendly• Excellent packaging and sturdy storage case• Impressive battery life• Professional-level features that make it a great long-term investmentIf you can afford this unit, I highly recommend it.
