This product should not be made available for shipment outside the US. To have your DNA sample analyzed you will need to collect the specimen and ship it back to the US so that Ancestry can analyze. However, the postage stamp for the return package is only for within the US. If I you contact Aramex or any other shipping company to send a human specimen, they will ask for a CDC report. I tried visiting govt clinics and calling ministry of health and they all confirmed that this can’t be done if they weren’t the ones collecting the specimens. So this product is useless and you will lose money..

This test was absolutely worth it for me. Not only was the process easy and straightforward, but the results truly changed my life. Through AncestryDNA, I discovered my half sister, and she helped me find my birth father. That connection meant more to me than I can put into words. If you’re hoping to learn more about your roots or possibly connect with family you didn’t know existed, this kit can open doors you never expected. I’m very grateful I decided to do it.

This is an excellent starter kit for anyone interested in learning more about or understanding their ethnic roots. We tend to think we're British or Afro/Caribbean, American or European or whatever. The truth is often surprising. DNA testing for ethnicity is still relatively young, but the database is growing and having taken this test, I'm both surprised, impressed and convinced by the results. My roots are diverse. There was no way that could have been known by Ancestry as I'm not a member. The test is easy; you provide a saliva sample in a tube, seal it and send it. Postage prepaid. Sit back and wait for results. Mine took 5 weeks, with a couple of progress updates. The readout is informed and comprehensive. A pie chart ethnicity breakdown with detailed region specific analysis and an illustrated history. Possible socio/economic influences which are likely to have affected movement of people. In my case, the overwhelming Scottish DNA profile was unexpected, but with the explanation of the story provided by Ancestry, it makes sense. Also some interesting genetic connections to Andeans and native Americans which were a surprise. The results also identify possible people matches; Ancestry members to whom there's a direct connection. I've contacted a couple on my list and unearthed some family detail which is new to me. This is a basic test. There are other mitochondrial kits for the maternal line, specifically and another for the paternal side. But they're more expensive. The Ancestry DNA ethnicity test is an excellent introduction to who you really are. I'm convinced the results are accurate and relevant, impressed with the detail provided and there's loads of ways to add more info without actually subscribing to Ancestry. This is more than fun, it's a building block for a bigger story. Excellent value

I've done DNA testing with all of the major companies now. And I've been at this DNA stuff for almost 15 years now. * I found the ethnicity estimate to be just about equal to everyone else. You can get more detail running your own models via gedmatch but for the curious or beginner, this is the easy result. If you just want to know whether you need a kilt or lederhosen or green beer for the next holiday seasons then this works as well, with many particular limitations, as any of the others. * There's no medical interpretation - most don't anymore. You can get good medical results running your raw download through Promethease for a few bucks. If you want to know medical propensities then Ancestry won't help much on its own. * The relationship calculations are pretty accurate and the database is huge. Compared to my other tests, this one returned far more and much closer connections. If you're looking for birth parents and such, this is the place to start. Just remember that the calculator is an estimate and other possibilities exist. - The sampling process was simple "spit in a tube, mail it in" - I much prefer cheek swabs but this gets the job done. - Time was super fast for me - 4 weeks from mail-in. I have a test out with one company that is nearing 3 months to process. - The user interface is pretty simple for newbies but doesn't offer much in the way of analysis tools for those who have DNA experience. Gedmatch can makeup for the shortfall in analysis tools if you can get your matches to upload there. - The ease of creating an attached tree makes for some particularly easy genealogical research to confirm/refute family connections. - The ease of creating an attached tree makes for some particularly prevalent errors in family trees. - yDNA and mtDNA predictive markers are hidden in these results if you want to make an effort to dig them out. - The marketing of this tester has created a large database of folks who were only interested in ethnicity and admixture estimates who have no interest in and won't reply to genealogy queries. Many haven't logged back in since they got their results back. There seem to be a lot of customers who forgot that molecular biology, human origins and migrations geography, and world history weren't their best subjects in school and were expecting this to return an easy result to "grasp it all" in a few minutes. The more you want to dig, the more complex the understanding will become. "DNA for Dummies" is a master's degree - "All You Ever Wanted to Know..." is a PhD. If you get hung up on needing to understand it all in a few short hours then you're going to get very frustrated. Take it in a little at a time. Having spent many $1000's on this hobby over the years, I'm very pleased with this $70 investment into understanding who I am and where I came from. Your mileage may vary.

Brilliant, the delivery was fantastic with it arriving the very next day. We ordered this 6 weeks before Christmas and I received the results via email on Christmas Day morning. I'm not sure if that was deliberate however it was a nice touch all the same. I was born in Kent moving to East Sussex when I was only two weeks old - I moved to the West Midlands in 2010, yet the DNA test was able to pick up on this. It told me exactly where the English side of my family originated (Central Southern England; Greater London) I had previously bought one for my husband and it showed the English side of him being from the Midlands - we weren't expecting that level of detail, we thought it would just say England! I was able to find out about my Welsh, Germanic and Swedish and Norwegian Viking ancestry (I had no idea, it made a nice topic during the Christmas Day telephone call to my mum!) and my husband's results had also been updated by the time mine arrived, in addition to his British and Italian ancestry, he has also gained some Norwegian Viking DNA! Maybe that explains his "manly" beard??? I was also shocked that I only had less than 1% of Scottish and Irish ancestry, it must be accurate as being British, you'd imagine I'd have a lot more than that, obviously not regarding my family! I'm really impressed with the results and ease of use. An awesome Christmas present and cheaper from Amazon than Ancestry's own website. Mrs M.
