great for survival and for art reference
Some minor problems in descriptions but looking at the pictures, not a big deal, seperate sections for Poisonous medicinal and useful plants as well as edible made this a great reference. Quick descriptions in the opening are more than made up for in the later sections. I also love how they warn NEVER to eat things that have poisonous close cousins I would not want to risk that, and watching shows like dual survival, man V wild and wildman i have learned that neither would the experts. The warning that not all of the plant is edible, even if part of it is, is a great bonus. And in the pages with the photographs the description of what plants give what nutrients is more than worth it. had to buy a new copy, lent my old one to an artist friend and he will not give it back. Portable, easy to pack, durable. One for the zip-lock baggy (any camper knows what i mean)

Edible plants.
This is a great book for our survival packs. Whether we are hiking or getting ready for world war 3.

I Love This Book!
I wasn't sure what to expect with this book when I ordered it, but I took a chance and it turned out to be one of the most interesting books I have. Anytime someone opens it up, it quickly becomes the main conversation piece. I'm sure it would be quite useful in a crisis situation too.It has full color photos, short concise descriptions, warnings, preparations and usages about each plant. It has a great variety of plants commonly found in the USA. Many of them I've recognized myself here in West Virginia. Although I'd prefer to have something much more specific to my area, I think this book is a must have for the price, content and interest alone. It ain't no plant Bible or anything, but it definitely had more information than any of us knew about. Even some of the ol' timers!

this book meets expectations of providing information on useful edible plants from around the world
Basically, this book meets expectations of providing information on useful edible plants from around the world. As such, it is necessarily weak on plants to be found in any single person's home area. Its main problem is that the illustrations are inconsistent; some are photos and others are line drawings. There are times that one media is preferable to the other to best show the distinguishing characteristics of a plant, but that did not seem to be the case with these pictures. In short, it's worth having, but not as the first, second or third book in your edible plant library.

S’okay.
This is not the best book ever on edible plants. But it’s better than nothing at all, I suppose.

Great for warm climates
Great guide with lots of information on useful and edible plants. This book generally covers plants that you'd find in tropical places, it would be of almost no help in the rocky mountains. If you want to eat and use wild plants, I recommend you buy a book specifically about the area you want to use this knowledge, and then add to that book by printing off info from the web. Personalize you book to the climate you want to use it in! If you're going to Vietnam, or the amazon, then this book is a great OVERVEIW. Nothing will stack up against specific knowledge you should find out yourself. 'mod your guide books'if you want specific info about this item before you buy it, reply to this review or e-mail me at [email protected]

EAT WHAT THE ANIMALS EAT
I ran across this little guide looking specifically for edible plants in Arkansas, which I did not find. I chose it for several reasons: 1) Department of the Army, 2) good color pictures, 3) additional information, i.e. plant identification, edibility test and the 4) Poisonous plant section. I figure if it is good enough for the military, its good for me.RECOMMEND to compliment a local, area or regional guide.

Not very good for a beginner
although this book describes many many plants, it is very vague which is not good for a beginner. the book is very nicely organized and can be a very nice quick reference. for someone who already knows what they are doing this could be a 5 star book. but for me, i need the details such as descriptions of the poisonous look-alikes. that one bit of information is just as important as the description of the plant itself. a better book for beginners would be "the foragers harvest". that book describes less plants but with MUCH more detail. i love that book. but i am glad that i also have this book so i can identify any plant that comes along but if i had to choose one book id go with "the foragers harvest".

Excellent images/descriptions, but not comprehensive enough to be practicle.
This book is great if you want an overview of wild foods from across the globe, but if (like I was) you're hoping for a comprehensive Eurocentric coverage of wild food you won't find it here. It seems like while trying to please everybody, they have ended up more than likely pleasing no-one. A series of books covering different regions in more detail would, I believe have benefited both the author (in sales) and potential buyer equally since as I said, the pictures and descriptions are excellent.Your government consists of puppet/whores, their masters view you as cattle and nothing more, the culture around you is a cage. Break free. Love and unity will be our salvation.

Timely delivery
Item arrived in a timely manner. However I was hoping there would be more detailed pictures and descriptions about all stages of plant growth.
