Heltec Mesh Node T114 Development Board with TFT Display, 3000mAh Battery + N36 Case Set, nRF52840 SX1262 Module, Supports LoRa, Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi, GPS and Solar Power for Meshtastic LoRaWAN IoT

I've bought several Meshtastic devices recently and this one is by far my favorite. My other devices are all ESP32 and none of them last more than a day on a full charge. I've been testing this one to see how long it runs and I'm currently at 25% battery life after (...gets out calendar...) approximately 10.5 days. I expect the battery will last right around 2 weeks, give or take a day. The only catch is, this device is my only device without GPS. It doesn't come with a GPS module, which is perhaps a knock against it. I did buy a module and plan to install it once the battery dies to compare the battery life with and without GPS. Just for reference, my other devices are a Heltec V4 with GPS and 3000mAh battery and a LilyGo T-Beam Supreme with GPS and a 3300mAh 18650 battery. Perhaps GPS is a huge drain on the battery for these devices, and I'll find that the battery life has dropped significantly when I install GPS in this one. I'll try to remember to update this review once I compare it. Regarding the form factor, I do like this case a little better than my V4 where the battery stacks on top of the board. This case is flat enough to stick in your pocket for a while without too much annoyance. The only complaint I have against these devices (and it's the same deal with the Heltec V4) is that the reset button should be recessed and harder to press. I have accidentally pressed it several times. The device restarts quickly so it's not a huge problem, but when I disassemble this to install the GPS module, I'll probably try to file down the button to make it flush or even recessed in the case. I also find the screen on this device to be nicer/easier on the eyes than the bright blue light of the Heltec V4 screen.

KNOW THIS: The case does NOT fit the GPS unit inside. NO way without drastic case modification. Heltec 114 is a super board and the rest of the unit is fine. Two antennas suppled... nice. To fit the standard GPS unit you'll have to Xacto blade out a square hole for the antenna side of the GPS board in the rear of the case. Oh, there is no driver for the display in the Meshtastic App. You are going to get a monochrome screen. I still don't get NO On/Off switch. I'll add one.

Original : I have both Style1 and 2 of T114 nodes. So far they are good. Upd 3/13/26 : The boards work ok out of the box as CLIENT with GPS. The real challenge is to get telemetry out of a node in a SENSOR mode. The lowest Telemetry update interval is 1800 seconds, but this is not guaranteed! The board sends data only on value change. So to get guaranteed telemetry every 60 seconds, one would need an Arduino or Raspberry Pi querying a sensor and sending a request to T114 node to post sensor data to MQTT. This way mesh node is used as a radio to internet gateway only.

The Heltec T114 Meshnode with 3000mah battery works well with Meshtastic, especially v2.7. On a recent trip to a city, my node was picking up and relaying data from 50+ other nodes over 30 miles away (with 1 or 2 hops). The 3000mah battery can reliably last over 1 week with just the T114 operating. I have added the optional Heltec gps module to mine and still get 5+ days on a charge. The case does not have enough room to fit the gps module without modification. From looking at the pictures, it looks like the case has a cutout for the module on the back by the gps plug on the board, but the case is a few mm too thin to fit the gps module. If you put the module in the case and tighten the screws until the case puts light pressure on the module, you can carefully warm the outside of the case with a gentle lighter to soften the PLA and stretch the case to fit the module easily. Overall 100% satisfied with the case and electronics as advertised and also glad that I was able to make the GPS module fit after the fact, although I do wish the case had been made just a little bit thicker to allow the GPS to fit without modification.
