Dorman 604-400 HVAC Blend Door Actuator Compatible with Select Ford Models

Being hard to replace is Ford's doing, not Dorman's. LOL On our '19 Fiesta, this was the actuator under the dash on the driver's side (the hardest to replace on a Fiesta). The Dorman replacement felt "heavier" and more structurally sound, fit perfect and is working fantastic. Even came with the little tool to place the damper door in the correct position to make installing the new unit easier.

I did not want to take my broken blender door to the shop just to have them charge me 300 bucks. I spent the 25 bucks on this one and changed it myself, only took me 2 hours, and that's because I had to run to the store to get a tool I was missing. This works perfectly, no issues. Also, I learned how to change this part by watching a YouTube video. Super easy, the difficult part was just getting into a tight space.

This part was very easy to install and works perfectly. Five stars for the part. *Horrible Delivery Amazon! Why are you now delivering my packages to the post office, which is 13 miles from my home?! I'm now expected to drive a 26 mile round trip and wait in line at the post office to pick up my packages??!! Ridiculous! I'll be shopping at other sites who use only Fedex and UPS delivery. USPS does not deliver to my home for some reason. If it doesn't fit in the mailbox they take it back to the post office and make me pick it up in-person, which is totally inconvenient. I guess Amazon is using USPS to save money!

So this part failed on a 2017 Fiesta ST with right around 27k on it. When you read online and on youtube, they state replacement is around 30 minutes. It is, if you are the size of a small child and have the dexterity of a surgeon working blindly. Otherwise, buckle up and prepare to contort yourself accordingly. The part itself looks fine. Only time will tell if the gears decide to part with their teeth so I can't curse OEM versus aftermarket just yet. I will update as time goes on. Obviously removal is the opposite of replacement but the most persnickety thing is plugging the unit back in (I waited until it was mounted) because of the short run of wire. The other thing I would recommend is spinning the large white gear until the unit plunks into place. It is keyed to go into one direction and when the old unit failed, it stopped dead where it was and not on either stop. The system will find "home" when you plug it all in and test it. The part includes a bit for your 1/4" ratchet but once again, it's blind and there's not much room. I literally just moved the gear both directions until it hit the stops and then fine tuned once I was close and bolted the unit down. Recommended to purchase at the same time as this would be a t20 bit wrench and a t25 for the steering column hardware. The red spinner that amazon recommends would work as well but you are limited on space on the top screw. You will spend the most time cursing yourself and why this part broke in the first place dealing with this hardware. If you chose to replace this yourself, you will find out why the dealer or even an indy shop charges as much as they do to replace something that was once actuated by cables that never or rarely broke. I can't say if I have to go back in if I'll be any quicker but I will certainly know what I am up against. Now you do too.

Anyone who has owned a Ford Fiesta for a while then you have (or will have) to replace this part (probablymore than once). You can replace it yourself if you have an extraordinary amount of patience (there are several videos showing you how on YouTube). I did attempt to replace it, but I wear glasses, with bifocals and, well, that made it difficult to see all I needed to do. Eventually I took the part to a local repair place and had them install it for $120. About the part itself, it works great. So, if you need a replacement blend door actuator then this one will do the trick.

Replaced an OEM blend door actuator in a 2016 Ford Fiesta (driver side) after OEM part failed for the 2nd time. Install is easy with the right tools. 3 Torx 25 screws on steering wheel cover (1 on bottom, two hiding behind the wheel - turn it), and 2 Torx 20 screws on actuator. Highly recommend a Torx 20 socket and a stubby 1/4" mini-wrachet. Raise the steering wheel and pull it out all the way to buy a little extra space. If the gears do not align, no need to open this part... With the actuator removed, rotate the large white gear below the actuator with your finger until it's in position. This part seems nicer than OEM parts, hoping it lasts longer. Be aware there is a look alike blend door that only has two pins in the connector, make sure you buy the right part for the job. So far only driver side has been failing...

My car always made a loud clicking noise every time I started the car, that was extremely annoying. Then eventually when I would turn on the defrausters, I wouldn't be able to switch back to the front vents. I replaced the broken blend door actuator with this one & it's all fixed, no clicking & it switches between vents perfectly. As for longevity I'm not sure, it's only been on for about a month now, but no problems so far.

Just what I need

Installed perfectally, worked just the way it should. Fixed the annoying blend door clocking. Time will tell if it lasts as long as the original equipment.
