5 stars bc I made some upgrades to it.
Package arrived on my neighbor's doorstep. It was delivered at 7 in the morning so I guess the delivery person was still half asleep. No damage to package though and it was delivered in the time frame promised... At least they took a picture of the door they left it at. Jeezus. As for the product itself, i didn't waste any time playing the PAL version of the games that came loaded in the console's system. No way i wanted to put myself through that pain. Also the selection of games is severely lacking imo. The console is so smol and baby but feels pretty sturdy. Still, treat it with care like you would your other consoles. I was disappointed with the controllers (x2) that came w it because no analog sticks lmao but they feel of good quality and are definitely usable. This is not the version where you can open the disc tray to put in game discs. Don't do it. Also, you need a usb power block/adapter. I used the one for my cell phone lmao and the system turned on just fine. This device only has 2 usb ports which is where the controllers plug into. It comes with an hdmi cable. You can easily watch reviews on youtube about this product as a stand alone and make your judgment. I had no intentions of using it as it was right out of the box after i saw in depth YouTube reviews and what people were actually using it for lol. UwU Upgrades: I used Eris on a usb stick, utilized an otg usb cable for more usb ports, and 8bitdo for wireless capability for my ps4 controller to use with this console. These modifications took this device to the moon and back for me. I absolutely love what I was able to turn this little guy into and all thanks to people out there who make these adjustments possible. I followed tutorials on how. Because of how smol this thing is, i can easily take it with me to different parts of the house. I was able to play some games on it with my brother this past weekend that we used to play as kids on the original ps1. I am very happy and feel like this console is a great little pet project. I had no prior exp w this stuff but am so glad i was able to take this baby to the next level and give it the justice that Sony freaking couldn't.

Great value now that modding has come to the system
This system comes with 20 pre loaded PS1 games that seem to be chosen randomly, you get a few games of every genre, jrpg, racing, fighting, shooters, kids games, ect. The selection is wide and will probably put you out of your comfort zone, I’ve already discovered a few fun games I’ve never played back in the day. When the system was new, the “only 20 games” complaint was very valid, but you can now buy a modded usb stick with 100+ preloaded ps1 games for around 20$, far cheaper than collecting all the disks. If you’re good with computers you can also download whatever games YOU like and out them on a usb drive and they’ll run on your ps classic with the help of a YouTube tutorial. Adding your favorite games or getting a modded game stick is essential and something you should look into if you finish all the preloaded classic games you enjoyed. Came with two controllers that feel high quality and will take you back by simply holding. PS classic was packaged very well, adding to the “quality feel” of this official Sony emulator. You can get knockoff mini systems but they won’t look or feel as nice as this official one. I have never before complimented a manufacturer on the way they package their items, may not mean a lot to most manufacturers but Sony is a Japanese company and like toyota they want to express quality everywhere in the product. The ps classic boxes unfold like origami and neatly fold back together if you want to use the box to store your classic/travel with it. When I was opening my PS classic I couldn’t help but think how much money Sony would save in the long run just taping up all these boxes, but rather than deliver lower quality packaging they have a machine or person take the extra time to fold these boxes neatly so they come apart and go back together very nicely. It’s the little things that remind you you have an official item. Good job Sony, I can definitely understand why some people may be dissatisfied with the base 20 games, but it’s a non issue In the current year when you can buy modded sticks here on Amazon for more ps classic games.

A Fantastic Time Capsule of Sony's First Console.
Yes I was there on Day One when Sony Launched this console which was akin to the significance of the Moon Landing for the Console Wars. Shots were fired by this little console that ruled the market, Scared Nintendo, and Sega and made Microsoft Enter the Console Realm. I do not feel the need to be a Petty Whiny Millennial who pulls their face away from their Cellphone and Bashes anything for the sheer sake of being a a Whiny Twit. This "CLASSIC" Console is a quick journey down memory lane for the people who loved the memory of these Ground Breaking Games. It provides a window to that Era when something Truly amazing had arrived. When this system came out there were no Dual Shock Controllers yet, there were no True 3D games yet, Everything current at the time was Limited to the Cartridge. Funny how when Dual shock did come around Nintendo had to answer the call with a battery powered plug in module for their single analog stick controller, and When "Tomb Raider" Showed up in a 3d World well Nintendo had to jump hurtles to copy that Formula. So to complain about limitations or scan rates is like putting a child in front of an Atari 2600 and plugging in Ateroids..You may get a comment like "..And you found this to be Fun???" Yes we did as it was what we had for the time, and this CLASSIC Console does the same thing, takes us back to that time when we were truly and completely amazed. Now its hard to Polish a Turd like the Atari 2600 "Pacman" or the console killer "ET" but thats because of the limitation of that Technology at that time. I dont Fault Sony for these games as many were made by third party Developers and to ask them to go back and re-engineer these games takes away from what made them what they were, These games were what we were taking about with our Friends, the games we were looking everywhere for (Intelligent cube was a beast to find)..and who can forget the hours spent into the night playing Final Fantasy 7? The Sony Playstation Original was the system of that decade and was responsible for many of the features you enjoy on your current systems today I LOVE THIS LITTLE GUY and yes i still have my original Playstation to this day. If you want to relive that time of the Dawn of Modern Video Gaming then do so without falling for all the Whiners and their complaints. If not, then go back to playing your Cell Phone game and being roped in to paying for an upgrade that would would have earned naturally on these games Thank you Sony for Taking the Leap. Lets hope that gamers like Myself can continue to show the Faith.

Decent Piece of Hardware, Yet it Seems like a missed opportunity.
A lot of the other reviews point out the flaws that only hardcore gamers and tech-savvy individuals will notice or even care about such as the fact that 9 out of the 20 games are the PAL (European) version of the games (which run at a slower frame rate), the lack of extra features such as a variety of menu backgrounds and screen resolution options (which the NES and SNES Classic both offer), or the lack of dual shock controllers. This review will contain only brief references of the above topics. Instead, I'll be looking at how the system performs from a casual gamer's perspective. To start off, the packaging is great (not to mention as authentic as possible), the startup of the system (as well as the startup of the games) is/are about as spot-on as possible, and the menu screen looks like the classic PS1 memory card screen which could be seen when the PS1 was booted up without a game in it making it as authentic as possible. The controllers continue with the authentic look and feel because they are the original PS1 controllers. As opposed to popular opinion, the controllers work perfectly fine with the games on the system (in fact a dual shock controller would probably only be helpful with one or two of the games). The cords are a little short, but if you're setting this up in your bedroom, you shouldn't have a problem. There is only one save state for each game (however most of the games do have their own built-in save feature so this isn't too much of a problem) which could be a problem for some. Most importantly, the games play well (for the most part). Now to address the elephant in the room: the game selection. There are a few great titles on here, a couple good ones, a couple that are halfway decent, and several that just aren't even desirable to play. I understand that some of these are critically acclaimed titles, but critics in my opinion are idiots who judge each and every thing by their own impossible standards. Critics pretty much ruin everything in all media or entertainment formats (to the point to where happy or uplifting endings of anything are now considered cliche and boring and escaping from reality is out of the question). Anyway, as can be expected, a few of the acclaimed titles selected are pretty good and the system wouldn't be the same without them. In order to properly address the game selection I've decided to talk about each game individually and then discuss a few of the games that should have been on here. My grading criteria will be based on the quality and the likability of the games themselves. 1). Battle Arena Toshinden - I'm sure whether it's the slower frame rate or the stiff game-play mechanics, but this game really is too stiff and/or difficult to enjoy or even play. This is a pretty bad selection for the system. 1 of 10. 2). Cool Boarders 2 - Decent extreme sports selection. While extreme sports games aren't my thing, I do like this selection for the system. 6 of 10 3). Destruction Derby - This game is one of the few games that suffer from the lack of dual shock controls as it is difficult to control with the controller given. On the other hand, turning could be just as bad with a dual shock. Anyway, the game is pretty boring aside from that and is a bad selection for the system. 2 of 10 4). Final Fantasy VII - Arguably the best role-playing-games of all time and one of the best PS1 games of all time (if not one of the greatest video games of all time). Epic story, great gameplay, great characters, satisfactory length and, not to mention, the system runs the game extremely well. 10 of 10 5). Grand Theft Auto - Not one of my favorite games or genres of all time. I personally have many moral objections to the game itself as, instead of playing as a hero in a fantasy world, you are playing as a criminal that steals cars, kills innocent civilians, and does many other immoral actions in a world full of crime. Despite my moral objections to the game, whether I like it or not, it does belong on this system as it was the first in one of the biggest video game franchises of all time and it plays decently on the system. 6 of 10 6). Intelligent Qube - Decent puzzle game that takes intelligence and a decent reaction time to play, however its presence on the system is quite questionable. 4 of 10 7). Jumping Flash - Excellent game and excellent choice for the console as it was not only one of the games that was used to prove the PS1's capabilities graphically, but it is also a classic in every respect. It's a combination between a kiddy version of a first-person-shooter and an excellent open-world platformer. 10 of 10 8). Metal Gear Solid - One of greatest games on the PS1, though mainly being put up there by critical acclaim, is a stealth-based third-person-shooter which introduced several new ideas to gaming. Great game and great selection. 10 of 10 9). Mr. Driller - Another puzzle game, Mr. Driller is a bit more bright and colorful than Intelligent Qube, and though it is slightly more enjoyable, it's existence on the system may be even more questionable than the latter. 4 of 10 10). Oddworld: Abe's Odyssey - A decent side scrolling platformer with unique gameplay mechanics, a compelling story, and ton of dark humor, this game is a PS1 classic. 7 of 10 11). Rayman - While Rayman 2 was better, the original is still a decent side scrolling platformer though its existence on the console is questionable. 5 of 10 12). Resident Evil: Director's Cut - A masterpiece survival horror game. The director's cut is probably the best version of the original game as there is a training mode for beginners to start with and an advanced mode for experts. This is also a less intense title than Silent Hill making it the perfect survival horror game for a casual gamer. The save state really helps out in certain parts of this one. Great choice. 10 of 10 13). Revelations: Persona - Unique RPG with interesting gameplay concepts and extremely hard to find these days, the first installment in the Persona series is a decent game, but a questionable selection for the system as it is only appealing to certain audiences. Also, there are elements of the mythology and philosophy in the game that are very questionable from a moral perspective. 3 of 10 14).R4 Ridge Racer Type 4 - A decent racing title and a good selection for the system. But, it is just a racing game. 6 of 10 15). Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo - Probably the best puzzle game on this system. It's essentially Tetris meets Street Fighter. 6 of 10 16). Syphon Filter - A very good third-person-shooter with great characters and dialogue. The gameplay is great in this game and it performs extremely well on the system. 9 of 10 17). Tekken 3 - Probably the best fighting game I've ever played. Great character selection and good gameplay mechanics. This is a must for this system. 9 of 10 18). Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: A first-person shooter with a large emphasis on stealth and strategy. A good game, however, I feel that a two-player FPS game should have been selected as opposed to this one. 6 of 10 19). Twisted Metal - One of the very first vehicular combat games, Twisted Metal is well... twisted. The most popular character is a psycho killer clown and the ultimate goal of the game is to make a deal with the devil. On the other hand, this did inspire some other great games on the system with much more moral story-lines such as Vigilante 8. It's a decent game if you can get over the immorality of the story, however this may be a game that could benefit from a dual shock controller. 4 of 10 20). Wild Arms - Decent role-playing-game with a unique story-line and setting. Definitely worth checking out, and its presence on the system is welcome. 7 of 10 As one can see from the list above, the game selection is pretty lackluster. There are a few Playstation essentials that are missing. The presence of these games would complete the system and make for a 5 star product. Those games are: 1). Crash Bandicoot - The exclusion of a game from this series is very disturbing as Crash is one of the Playstation's biggest mascots. 2). Spyro the Dragon - Same as Crash. Also, this game is what really sealed the PS1's victory over the Nintendo 64. 3). Tomb Raider - A Playstation Classic. A few other welcome inclusions would be: 1). Nightmare Creatures 2). Vigilante 8 3). Doom 4). Croc All in all, the system is decent, however the game selection is lacking. It's just such a great system that a poor game selection really makes a big missed opportunity on Sony's part.

Very nostalgic and cool
I see mixed reviews about this system, but I love it! $60 might be a little steep, but The PlayStation mini was definitely worth the money for me! the console is on the small side but it doesn’t bother me. The controllers are awesome and everything about this system is very nostalgic , yes it only comes with 20 games however if you look on amazon there are game sticks that you can get for this system which will add 100 plus games each ! My personal favorites are the “true blue minis” I’ve played all 20 games that’s actually on the system and I ran them all fine with no problems, resident evil ran very smoothly for me and I used to play it on the original system so I would notice a difference. It played the exact same as the Original. Some people are saying the games are slower or glitchy but I’ve played my system for 2 years with over 300+ games and have not had a single problem yet. Played multiple games with my friends and have had a lot of fun! Would definitely recommend this system for anyone who loves ps1 or old school games. Again I highly recommend getting gamesticks for this system so you can play hundreds of games! You can even buy a usb and get your own games if you know how to do so but I just stick to the preloaded usbs. “True blue minis” are dope. Hope this review helped and have fun!

It's really only worth it if you get it cheap and want every game
Let me start by talking about the goofiness of this product's pricing. The MSRP might be $100, but it really isn't worth that, and retailers know that. Even buying it at Gamestop gives you a $25 in-store credit, which is why it's no surprise that I first saw this online for $75. I only bought it after other reviewer's jokes about another price drop came true, and I snagged it for $60. I don't know if the price is going to drop again, or if it will be going back up. I also recently acquired a SNES Classic, so that is what I will be comparing this to. Something I was disappointed with that I didn't see anyone else mention is the controllers. They work just fine, but they don't seem to have any rumble capability, despite some of the included games (such as Rainbow Six) having vibration options. This was a bit of a bummer, but nothing huge I guess. A problem other people seem to have is the lack of included charger. A cable is actually included, contrary to what I understood, but no wall adapter is. The console comes with 2 controllers that use USB (2.0 from what I can tell) connectors, an HDMI cable, and a charging cord. The SNES Classic came with all of the same and an AC wall adapter, but has proprietary controller connectors. The console itself is lightweight, but doesn't seem super fragile. My only real complaint is the metallic noisy springiness of the buttons, compared to the SNES Classic's solid and silent build. The SNES Classic came in simple packaging, just a box and some slots, but the PS1 Classic comes in a labyrinth of boxes. Probably unimportant, but it just seemed so unnecessary. The most common complaint that I have seen is that the games run poorly and are the PAL versions. As far as the PAL versioning goes, I am not extremely familiar with the original versions of the games included, so I can't say too much. The performance of the games was a mixed pot for me. I did notice what seemed to be a fair amount of slowdown on some of the more graphics heavy 3D games, such as Metal Gear Solid and Tekken 3. I compared MGS to the original PS1 disc running on my PS3 and Tekken footage on YouTube. Simpler games like Puzzle Fighter II and, to my surprise, Rainbow Six. Thankfully, Final Fantasy VII also seems to run well. The selection of games is rather hit or miss, but they did manage to arrange some decent variety. If you like classic fighters (Tekken 3, Battle Arena Toshinden) or RPGs (FFVII, Wild Arms, Persona), you have a nice collection for not too awful of a price. I'm surprised that more classics like Crash Bandicoot or PaRappa the Rapper weren't included, but I did see the latter included in some sort of expansion pack at a Gamestop. I know many of these were re-released as digital download remakes for consoles like the PSVita. If you only care about a few of the games, I would suggest just buying them as modern downloads. (If you don't care about RPGs, you can skip this section) In cases like Persona, future releases of the game fixed problems the PS1 version had like money problems, but I don't believe this fixed version is included. I can't fault them for that, as the SNES Classic missed a similar opportunity to fix mistakes of Final Fantasy VI's overseas muck-ups. I was pleased to see Wild Arms included, as I've heard good things about it, but finding a cheap copy has been a barrier to me in the past. Maybe Sony is dropping the price to sell out of these before they release a newer, better model, who knows. If you really want a majority of these games in one and you can get it for cheap, it's not the worst way to spend your money.

Good if you hack it.
This looks really cool, I had a PS1 on opening day when I was a kid and this is a very very very good replica. The controllers are really nice, no thumbsticks but that can be fixed(read below). It get a lot of hate because the included games suck and a lot aren't even the NTSC version, they're the PAL version along with no tumbsticks on the controllers. If you hack the system you get the most up-to-date emulator(this uses a old one by default), you can load it with the entire PS1 library if you want and it will work with a PS3/PS4 controller in wired mode so you get the thumbsticks. I like this over a raspberry pi because the case does look really nice and it is a nice touch to use the open button to switch discs. I would pick this up, especially for the 29.99 price I bought it for, I like it(hacked) more than the Nintendo minis. UPDATE: Have played this a ton and works great (hacked) but I've moved back to my pi a bit more and I have to say these are my favorite wired controllers. I might buy a second PS1 Classic just for the controllers. I mainly play retro games and PS1 games I just play the RPGs so I don't really need thumbsticks. It is nice to have 4 of the same controller when playing with friends, right now I have a miss-match but if I had 4 of these controllers it would be a lot better. I hope they're still around Black Friday, maybe I can pick up a second for $19.99. Fingers crossed!

Do Not Buy
The PlayStation Classic Console is a gigantic disappointment. Below you will find my Pros and Cons. Also a list of games that defined the PS1 back in the 90s. EDIT: Ignore comments from people saying the system is not that bad, they are not Tech smart and have no idea what the system is supposed to look like. CONS: 1. The Menu interface is Boring and uninteresting. 2. There is no power brick provided. (its possible to plug in the wrong power adapter and fry your console So beware) 3. It's slow, the emulation is actually pretty terrible. I have found this to be true looking at other reviews. 4. The games do not represent the best of the PlayStation 1 days. (more on this below) 5. There are no CRT filters, this means that the graphics look horrible on a modern HD LCD. 6. The controllers are not Dual Shock controllers. (Almost a Requirement for Rainbow Six) 7. It's over priced for the quality of the unit. 8. And this is big for me maybe not for you, The boot up sounds are missing and the game start sound is not anything like the original. It sounds absolutely terrible. 9. Sony used an Open Source Emulator. Why didn't they use an in house Emulator? 10. Why are their PAL games on this system. PAL 50htz NTSC 60htz. This means there is frame loss on PAL games and its noticeable. PROS: Not much to say here. 1. Its cute uhhh or something 2. it looks good next to my NES and SNES classic 3. You get 2 USB controllers that work on your computer... Thats about it A Better Game list here (IMHO) 1. Crash Badacoot 2. Crash Team Racing 3. Castlevania SOTN 4. Dino Crisis 5. Final Doom 6. Final Fantasy VII 7. Einhander 8. Oddworld 9. Metal Gear Solid 10. Twisted Metal 2 11. Rayman 12. Spyro 13. Wipeout XL 14. Resident Evil 1 15. Resident Evil 2 16. Ridge Racer Orginal + 60 Frame Version 17 GranTruismo 18. Parapa the Rapper 19. Syphon Filter 20. Silent Hill 21. Tomb Rader 1 or 2 IDC both are amazing All in all I feel like SONY took this mini console as a joke. I think IMHO that sony handed this project off to the lowest bidder. It feels unfinished and unpolished. Its a Turd and not worth your money or time. If you are looking for nostalgia, look elsewhere. do not buy this mini console and if you already have I encourage you to return it. Make SONY understand that its fans will not put up with this uncompleted piece of garbage.
