1991 xlh1200 is alive !
My magnetic pick up went out on a 1991 sportster 1200. that part alone is $60 but the solid state ignition module (separate that year) is another $100 and i figure 30 year old solid state electrical stuff will fail any minute. the ultima module that replaces both alone is $130 so i figured i should go for the kit. It didnt disappoint. With a drained battery (12.1 volts) the bike started and ran great, despite being very crudely static timed. i cant speak to the longevity but this seems to be a quality product and the bike really loves it. instuctions are clear and easy to follow. make sure to have some ring terminals and crimp on connectors (or a soldering iron) on hand. they kid includes one or two along with a replacement rotor (not necessary for installation)

Awesome ignition system.
I can't say enough good things about this system. Bike runs consistently throughout the power curve. No more hesitation, hiccups, backfiring, or hard starting. Used on my old '88 Evo. Feeding the cable sleeve through the cam cover hole was a bit tricky, but temporarily tapping the end together allowed it to slip through. Clear directions and the status/vacuum LEDs were very helpful getting it static timed.

Very Good, If Pricey, And Not Without An Issue
This was purchased to replace the failed ignition control module on a 1982 Sportster "Ironhead" (XLS "Roadster"). I would have preferred to have simply replaced the original module, but was unable to find one. The Ultima system mounts in the right side case where the pick up coil was mounted, and replaces both the pick up coil and the control module. Installation was straight-forward, following the included instructions. My bike already had the correct gold pick up rotor, so I didn't install the one that came with the kit. I removed the output sprocket cover (which, on my bike, meant also removing the exhaust, footpeg and rear brake pedal and master cylinder) to more easily route the harness out of the engine and under the starter. My bike is all stock (except for the carburetor), so I set all the DIP switches to "OFF". Setting the static timing using the LED on the main unit was easy, and once all hooked up, the bike fired right off. The only real hiccup was the coil included with this kit was too wide, and because my coil mounts under the frame down tube and between the tank, would not allow the tank to mount down. I ended up leaving the rear coil mounting bolt out, and swinging the coil forward on the front bolt, moving the coil forward and away from the tank. This is a pricey kit, to be sure, but if it lasts 40-years, as the OEM did, will be a good investment.

get the dyna tek kit
coil worked for 2 months on my chopper build before failing. when removing the coil one of the negative terminals snapped off, I guess it was compromised on the inside and that’s why it fell apart so quick. here we are 2 months later and today the icm stopped delivering good spark to my plugs. used a multimeter to test every other part that could be contributing to bad spark and the ICM ended up being the only possible culprit. pretty disappointed in this ultima set, should have just upgraded to the dyna tek kit. you get less than what you pay for in my experience with this single fire setup, hopefully you’re luckier than me.

Works great on my 78 Harley shovelhead
Even though this can be put in single fire, I put it in dual fire mode because I like the crackling and popping when deaccelerating. Biggest thing I noticed other than never having to mess with ignition again, is it starts up in like half a second. It was worth it just for that IMO. I used 8mm plug wires and autolite iridiums gapped at .042.
