Israel (Insight Guides) Paperback – July 1, 2012

Has a lot of detailed information about one of the most fascinating counties in the world. Gives you a good start in your learning about the country.

This guidebook is adequate, nothing more. It offers very basic factual information but barely enough. Certainly it is an insufficient resource for planning a vacation to a place as historically and culturally rich as Israel. The three stars are for the beautiful photos.

A very helpful guide for visitin the Land of Israel!

Nothing better for before, during, and after a trip. It's my travel guide and history book all in one. Go for the book and not for the kindle version if you can as the photos are wonderful.

The guide gave some good background information and was well put together in terms of the chapters selected and the scope of the material. The maps themselves could have been better for anyone wanting to drive. Not enough of the lesser roads were shown and it seemed that some of the older cities e.g. in the Negev, that have been granted World Heritage Site status were not really well covered. What about an estimate of the time taken to undertake a reasonable 'visit'? This is a bit subjective but could be useful.We stayed in Kibbutz rooms but I do not remember much about that aspect either (but could be mistaken as the book is not to hand at the moment). We also found quite a lot of other places researching the web that were not covered in the guide e.g. Scorpion Trail.

Bought this book second hand and when it arrived it looked brand new. It was an ex library copy, but I don't think it was ever loaned out. Great book, full of useful information and loads of pictures. Will come in very useful for my upcoming trip to Tel Aviv.

Useful guide

Well presented and very helpful. Photography is excellent and articles on political history are very informative. I would have liked a bit more detail on historical sights, architecture, archaeology etc. However a great starting point for a planned tour.

We took it to Israel for the time we spent there. It was useful as a brief guide to most places and also gave a little history.The Section on Massada was particularly good as an overview. I would buy a Brief Guide as opposed to other guides which might be better known.
