satisfactory
I have read some pages via books.google and found the book helpful so I ordered one. I'll keep studying by this book and I guess I won't need any other source -except pronounciation exercises. (Thgough I don't recommend audio supplement. It's not worth that price.)

Excellent introduction to Bulgarian; urgently needs (and deserves) a revision
If you are looking for a systematic introduction to the Bulgarian language, this is your book! The complicated verb system and complex rules for word order are explained in great detail. Exercises help you to put the grammar into practice. The book is old-fashioned in a positive sense: it offers systematic grammatical instruction. However it is also old-fashioned in a negative sense regarding the content and style of the texts as well as the material on the cultural and social context of Bulgaria. In the book you meet the country of the 1990s, just after the fall of communism. You do not meet Bulgaria as part of the EU, its modernization and cultural change. It is a book from a different time, when people wrote long letters, did not have cell phones or e-mail and gender relations were even more traditional than they are now. And they drove cars (presented on photos in the book) that can no longer be found on the road. Some of the idiom itself is also dated. But it is, as far as I know, the only really systematic introduction to Bulgarian. Therefore it deserves a revision to advance it some 30 years in time to deal with the language and culture of the 2020s. In this revision the answers to the exercises should also be included in the book, or be made part of a web-based learning system.

Not a textbook for those new to Bulgarian
I purchased this textbook with a view to consolidating the work that I had done on the excellent online course "Bulgaro". However, without the benefit of the experience that I had gained, the material presented in this book would have been difficult to assimilate. I found that the manner in which ideas were presented were somewhat arbitrary. Athough there is a unifying theme in the reading sections of each of the fifteen lessons, there is no means by which one can assess one's progress because there are no answers. Additionally I found it difficult to pinpoint those parts of Bulgarian grammar that I wanted to check or investigate further.

A Must-Have book to learn Bulgarian Language!
The book is amazing! A wonderful way of learning Bulgarian language. Here in my country, Brazil, we do not have a book teaching Bulgarian. Then If you really intent to learn Bulgarian, "Intensive Bulgarian" is a Must-Have book. Buy it!But this book deserves its dialogues and texts were recorded by native speakers and were left on a website in order we can listen to the audio and learn better.

good textbook
it is a good textbook, well structured and with fun dialogs and texts to read. However, if I did not have a Bulgarian at hand to help me with the pronunciation and the exercises I would not have gotten too far.

Great Guide for Learning Bulgarian Language
Unfortunately, it seems that materials for learning Bulgarian are far and few between. I have found limited (adequate) sources online for learning Bulgarian (on both English and German websites), and this book seems to be the best of its kind. Although I am only on chapter 2 of the book, I find the grammar explanations to be simple, and for the most part, easy to follow. I also find the format of the book to be very user-friendly. Each chapter begins with a short dialogue, which introduces the new grammatical concepts and vocabulary for the chapter. I find it useful to read through this dialogue a few times before reading through the chapter, and then reading it again before moving to the next chapter, to make sure that I understand its contents. In addition, a nice glossary of vocabulary words and phrases is included with the conclusion of each chapter. The inclusion of verb conjugations for numerous persons (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc) is nice as well. This book also seems to be great, from a cultural standpoint. I am fortunate enough to have the help of a Bulgarian woman, who works through the book with me. She helps me correct my pronunciation (though I think that audio Cds may be available for purchase as well), and also points out the significance of the inclusion of certain words in the book. To learn how to say "There's a draft" in chapter 1 is not as strange as it seems for an American, she told me, as culturally, this comes up a lot in Bulgaria. The only downside is that my tutor has found a few mistakes so far in the book (or so she believes), but this sort of thing occurs with 99% of language books on the market.Overall, one gets what he or she pays for, and in terms of Bulgarian textbooks, this one seems to be the best on the market for the serious student. For those people who just want to learn a few phrases for a vacation, the Teach Yourself Bulgarian book might be a better match. However, for someone who does not just want to learn how to put together a limited number of set phrases on "survival" topics, and for someone who wants to get his or her hands dirty and gain an understanding of the grammar behind the language, then this is definitely the better book.

Intimidating
The media could not be loaded. 4•23•2023It’s overwhelming for me to see so much to learn yet also exciting. I hope this will help a long way as finding sources online has been—challenging or there’s some sort of subscription. I’m a slow cookie when it comes to grammar/language learning but I’ll try updating along the way of progress. Took a video of table of content and the back of book as Amazon shows no helpful pictures—except front cover.
