Awesome Hub - bad cable
I really like this USB 3.0 hub. Most USB 3.0 hubs seem like cheap pieces of junk, but this one having a metal case has a good, solid, quality, look and feel. Other than the USB 3.0 cable being bad out of the box, I would highly recommend this product.Below is my review on the StarTech USB 3.0 HDD dock Model: SATDOCKU3SEF which includes mention of THIS hub. Both had bad cables and its easier to paste my other review below than to type it again. Below basically say's, if you think your USB 3.0 item is dead, try another cable that you know is good!____________________________________________I have recently purchase 5 of these for work(StarTech USB 3.0 HDD dock Model: SATDOCKU3SEF). I have to use docks for forensic applications sometimes and the hdd's are constantly reading/writing for days on end. With regular docks, the hdd's get hot enough to fry an egg but the cooling fan on this dock is awesome and the drives only get warm. I thought one of these was bad but after a little trouble shooting, I found that the USB 3.0 cable was bad. I have about 10 different items that have USB 3.0 and three of those items came with bad cables. The other two were the StarTech USB 3.0 Industrial 4 port hub (ST4300USBM) and a Vantec Nexstar hdd dock. I RMA'd the first Vantec dock that was doing the same thing and most likely, it was the cable too. With the Vantec hdd dock, I thought something was wrong with one of my laptops USB3 ports which it was the only computer I had used it with. It always said this item will work faster if you plug it into a USB3 port and I had constant disconnects(Same problem with my first one). After I realized that I had bad cables with the Startech Dock and Hub, I tried a new cable on the Vantec hdd dock and that's when I found out that cable was bad too.I have read a lot of reviews where USB3 items were dead on arrival and I would bet that some if not most of these items had bad cables. I'd like to know if it's the same manufacturer that's supplying these cables to the different companies.I needed all of these items to work asap so I just went out and bought new cables which were about $5 each made by Bergtek and they worked fine. So, if you buy a USB 3.0 dock, hub, etc from ANY manufacturer and it doesn't work or work right, try another cable if you have one!

Great product for small astrophotography setups.
I really, really, REALLY like this hub. It is fast and never crashes on me even in extreme temperatures outside. Running for days with no downtime is easy. I liked the 4 port so much I bought the 7 port version for my automated deep sky telescope, and I keep this one for my smaller setup for planetary work. I think these StarTech hubs are the most reliable ones available. You pay more, but you have none of the problems with the cameras going down, even with 90 foot powered hub cabling. I recommend these to all of my astrophotography friends.

Great little hub
As with everything I've bought from StarTech, this works great and does what basically nothing else would. I bought this because I wanted to mount it to the bottom of my desk. Finding a hub that can be usefully mounted like that is near impossible, except for this one of course.Package contains everything you could need and more. Power cables for the US, EU, and UK, universal power adapter, and USB 3 cable. Something else to note is the little green block on it is a two wire power connector that you can hook in to more or less any DC power system. You can use something like a 24v camera adapter if you need a longer cable run than the included adapter provides. The hub seems to work just like it should. All the devices I've tested work, even fiddly ones like a Steinberg eLicenser (a DRM dongle for audio software). Also it properly does USB 3 and 2 at the same time. I had a USB 2 game controller and a USB 3 flash drive in it at the same time, and the flash drive still got USB 3 speeds (250MB/sec in the case of this drive). So no worries about plugging in different things at the same time. There's just nothing to complain about that I can see. It does its job well and is solidly built. You can mount it under a wood desk and have some ports right where you need them, and not have to worry about it.

Good sturdy quality
These are built to withstand extreme abuse and are very good quality. They are terrible value for money as you can buy a 4 port powered USB 3.0 hub for about 10% of the cost of this one however if you have a customer who wants extreme indutrial condition quality/military grade then these will work. My customer loves them and I just passed on the cost, but if you just want this for personal use it is way over the top and poor value for that use. Yes I would buy these again, probably for the same customer.

Wanted to love this usb hub. But (updated)
Upon installation it was dead on arrival. Tried multiple known good usb ports on my pc, tried multiple usb cords also. Kept getting last device not recognized on my usb serial bus controllers. Their support contacted me multiple times to help with my install. I was impressed. I never did contact them back though. The next day I unplugged the unit, rebooted my computer and then low and behold it started working. Don't know what happened. Tried every usb on my computer before but once I unplugged the unit both power and usb and rebooted my pc it started right up. Love it!

It Stopped Working After A Year
Pros - It is well-constructed and has a simple and effective mounting solution. The four USB 3.0 ports provided enough power for my iPad and iPhone 5 to charge, and those Apple devices seem to be the pickiest I have found. The USB ports give a snug fit with all my USB cables.Cons - I have owned it for just over a year and it will no longer work properly. If I plug in my phone the computer will recognize it, but the phone will only trickle charge and it will not actually acknowledge that it is charging. My Kindle will charge normally but it does not recognize that it is connected to the computer. The lights on the USB hub no longer light up to indicate that a device is connected. Luckily StarTech has a 2-year warranty so I will take advantage of that, but this is not a cheap USB hub so I was hoping it would last longer.

Works well. However, don't use the USB cable ...
Works well. However, don't use the USB cable that comes with it. Half of my devices would not work until I swapped out the cable.

Excellent quality
It truly seems one of the few that work the right way.
