Hobie - Mast Float Kit Wv/H14/16 "Baby - 30115

We have installed these floats on each of the four Flying Scots in our club-owned fleet, and swear by them. Many of our members who use these boats are new to sailing, so I decided that mandatory mast flotation is the only way to go. We have demonstrated the float bulb's effectiveness by intentionally knocking our test boat down during our capsize seminars and showing that a 120-lb person can right a Scot within 60 seconds (I'm 74 years old and weigh 190, so I stayed in the boat to help 'the little guy' get back in). The boat took on about two gallons of water in the ordeal.I have also capsized a Scot without mast top flotation and ended up spending three hours or so helping to right it with the assistance of a rescue boat, including the time it took to tow the swamped boat back to the dock. Fortunately we had a davit and didn't have to pump all the water out.

Works well when attached with rivets. Regular screws back out with vibration.

Saved our sailboat many times from going fully over in big storms. Very effective.

After experiencing my small sailboat "turtle" (having the mast point straight down in a lake) I mounted a Hobie "Baby" sized mast float to my FJ sailboat. I was able to adapt the mount to fit my masthead and make it removable (for trailering). It looks good and is reassuring to know it will prevent such problems in the future. The included mounting hardware did not fit my masthead, but I made a simple adapter that worked with just a little drilling/shimming and two small 3/16 stainless steel bolts with wing nuts. Seems like the best solution.

Keeps my Hobie 16 from turtling when I go over in a gust. Installation on my comp-tip mast was easy, but the instructions could use a bit of love. Remember to double-check your orientation before drilling!

Attachment comes only in one configuration, I had to buy a set of parts from the hardware store to make sutable set of brackets for my boat. Otherwise works as intended

Mounted it to my H18, comp tip mast, with quite a bit of help from the Internet and some fabrication work. Look on the Hobie Cat Forum for additional instructions, tools used, etc. Happy with the product and end result.

Bought this for my sailboat and it does exactly what it is supposed to do, I think. I haven't needed to use it yet, but assume it will be good.
