Finally, one that works!
At age 11, my black lab, which always had fur described as "mink," developed the flakes and itchy skin so many other reviewers have described. It would get so bad he would chew the skin raw. So I purchased quality groomer clippers to keep him shaved in a "puppy cut"--it's much easier bathing a short haired dog and ensures good coverage and have you seen the groomer's prices to clip your dog?--consulted with the vet, and researched the various types of skin afflictions. I have tried many different shampoos for their various ingredients--allergy, benzoyl peroxide, dermapet malacetic, oatmeal, tea tree oil, hot spot relief, chlorhexidine--as well as prescriptions from the vet. Some of these controlled it, others made it worse, but nothing got rid of it. The vet advised that it may just be allergies in old age and to bathe just once a week, but after 3-4 days he was smelly, flaky, and scratching non-stop. So after two years of "puppy cutting," 2-3 baths a week, and several hundred dollars later, it was time to try yet something else. After reading the great reviews, I ordered two bottles of Vet Solutions. Wow! Improvement noticed upon the very first use! The itching was sharply reduced, red patches gone, and the hair is growing in fuller and getting back it's luster. Also, this product lathered better than anything. Three weeks and 3 baths later--yes, I only need to bath once a week--today's shave was probably the last, and I hope to return to monthly baths just in time for winter. I wish I had found this sooner, for the first bottle is only 1/2 gone, and I would have cured the itching for just $20! Maybe this product will work for your pet, but if it doesn't keep trying and consulting with your vet. You owe it to your pet to stop the itching. (On a side note, the Vet Solutions ear cleaner is also amazing! No more of the chronic yeast infections common in retrievers. A weekly cleaning with a soaked cotton square is all it takes.)UPDATE 08/28/11: This is still my favorite shampoo. My lab just turned 14!!! He gets a bath about once a month. Turns out he also had a thyroid condition, which often manifests itself with poor skin and coat, as well as energy level and weight among other things. The vet suggested the test. Ask your vet about it if you're still trying to find the cause of your pet's skin problems. The test and re-test will cost you, but the daily supplement is not expensive, especially if you purchase via an on-line Rx.

This shampoo cleans my furry dog very well, and doesn't irritate her skin.
I use Vetoquinol medicated shampoo because it was recommended by our veterinarian, who also advised me not to bathe my "indoor" dog more often than every 4 weeks. However, I bump up the frequency to every 2-3 weeks for spring-to-autumn seasons, and the bottle actually says it can be used weekly. My very furry mutt loves to roll in the grass, and her thick, tangly hair seems to be a magnet for all sorts of plant material and icky stuff. This shampoo makes ample suds, cleans well, and rinses out easily. A moderate amount "goes a long way." I only lather her up once, but I rinse her twice, thoroughly, from front to back. The label advises users to keep this shampoo out of their animal's eyes. I have not had a problem in this regard, but I do use a tearless "baby shampoo" for her face, and am very careful to protect her eyes when rinsing. I think Vetoquinol has a pleasant, "clean" fragrance which lingers for about a week after the bath, even after thorough rinsing. Others have also commented that it smells good. This shampoo works very well for us, but I suppose some dogs could have a sensitivity to one or more of its ingredients.

Best medicated dog shampoo.
My pit/lab was having horrible rashes that caused him to scratch until he bled. NOTHING was working until a friend told me to try this shampoo. BEST stuff ever. I bathed him every other week, x3. His skin is so much calmer and no more sores from scratching. Its a little pricey but it works so it is worth every penny.

No more stinky dogs!!!
First of all, let me say that this product arrived lightning fast. I wasn't expecting it to arrive until this week. It arrived within 2 days (on Saturday) and I have already used it. It lathered very nicely. My doggies fur is very soft. The hot, red patches (not raw) on their skin have gone away after one use and the scratching has greatly reduced. I know that it will take more than one bath to get the full results from this product, but I can already see progress. I am hoping that their skin gets healthy and they can go back to being happy dogs again instead of stinky, miserable and itchy. I am a believer in this product already and will be a long time user. I am looking forward to their next bath.March 28, 2011 update:I am still using this shampoo on regular basis. My bottle is almost empty and I will purchase it again. The instructions state to lather, rinse and REPEAT. Initially, I wasn't repeating. Wow...what a huge difference when I did. The first wash would get rid of the surface dirt and oil. The second wash was getting to the skin. It really made a big difference.I took this shampoo to two different vets and both said that it was a good shampoo to use on my dogs. So far, I am very happy with it. I initially bought it when my dogs were suffering staph infections and horrible odor from allergies. My one dog would develop a slimy film on her coat. The first wash would get rid of that and then the repeat wash would get to her skin and the infections. It worked great while the vet and I were figuring out the cause of their allergies. Now that we seem to have those under control I still use the shampoo.

Anti-Fungal Shampoo smells great and works great!
SO WORTH THE MONEY!It REALLY works & it smells good! Leaving it on 15 minutes is the HARDEST part! So, I wet the affected areas well & I put a dot or 2 of the shampoo on my dog and add a little more water or shampoo until it lathers up well. Whole she relaxes I let it sit for the 15 minutes before taking her in to wash the rest of her body. It does help heal pretty quickly. Use it every 3-4 days until a noticeable change and then once a week. The vet said he couldn't believe my dog was almost cleared up! (she had a pretty bad case)
