This game is a fun 1-4 player game with lots of opportunities to troll your friends! It's a fun fairly easy game to entertain, but also has it's own difficulties woven into it. I've finished this game multiple times and it remains fun each time. Love it!

Definitely one of the better 2D Marios but not the best. Not extremely exciting to look at, and feels extremely clunky to control coming off the heels of something like Super Mario World or Super Mario Bros. Wonder. In an attempt to stay true to its old-school roots, New U has level timers, kicks the player back to the world map upon death, and has a needlessly archaic progress-saving system rather than auto-save. (If you're trying to decide whether to get this or Wonder for your Switch, just go with Wonder please. No further investigation required.)However again, by no means is it a bad game, and in fact I would consider it a must-play for Mario enthusiasts. Extremely solid and varied level design and tough challenges (not the least including the additional Luigi U campaign) make it a more-than-decent addition to the lineup, and a great entry point for the series if for some reason you find that it's easier to obtain than others. Offline multiplayer is rather quite fun, if chaotic, though when four people are playing one or two of them are forced into picking an "easy" character with slight mechanical differences.Overall, a solid package with a substantial amount of content and variable difficulty, but plain presentation, ancient game mechanics, and being on a system with better 2D Marios all hold it back.
