Q: Could i use the meater + in a joint of meat which is then sealed in a vacuum sealed bag and placed in a sous vide?

Probably. It’s dishwasher safe so a sous vide temp should be ok too. Even a sous vide takes time to heat the center of a piece of meat so I can see it being handy.

Q: how does it know how long to cook a piece of meat for, do you need to weight it first?

Hi, The MEATER app will use the temperature data collected from the cook to estimate the time to completion as well as the estimated resting time required to reach your desired temperature. Definitely! You can create up to 4 custom alerts to notify you if the internal and/or ambient temperatures drop below a certain point. A fully charged probe will last 24+ hours.

Q: Has anyone used this probe in a steam oven? Just wondering if it is steam proof.

Yes indeed so long as to make sure the temperature will not exceed 275 degrees celcius and DO NOT submerge the probe in water or oil.
