Pimsleur Tagalog Conversational Course - Level 1 Lessons 1-16 CD: Learn to Speak and Understand Tagalog with Pimsleur Language Programs (1)

Due to several negative reviews, I nearly passed on this superb resource. The Tagalog language is not easy to learn for English speaking people. While there are some Spanish words, the language is anything but Latin, coming down through the Austronesian people. I would say that you have to be committed on wanting to know the language and because of the fact that it does not come from Latin roots, It will likely take several years to master, if spoken regularly. My wife is Filipino and we go to the Philippines often. So... I strongly recommend this trainer, ESPECIALLY for the price. Awesome value! Thanks Pimsleur!

Okay, I am writing this review for the Tagalog CDs. Overall great product, the biggest advantage this product has over other ones is that it doesn't require additional time spent in the day as compared to the computer software competition. I am able to listen to the material going to and from work. The 'R.S.' one I'd about 150 hours, compared to 30 for pimsleur CD. Please note this is only 16 lessons/8 hours... The complete course is 30 hours 60 lessons. The only thing I think they could do better is a workbook to go along with the product and an introduction to the alphabet and pronouncing of the sounds. The Ng , ngu , nga are difficult to speak for English speakers. There is another CD/workbook that's significant cheaper on the market by another competitor. Overall I am on lesson 5 and happy I bought it. I will be buying the additional set. I canunderstand some Tagalog in movies and hold a basic conversation. You LL need additional material to help you.Magandang tanghali, salamat po.

Love these! I listen to a lesson every night and am almost done with my first set. My husband is originally from the Philippines and has been helping me with some of the pronunciation. He says the discs are very accurate and are even helping him refresh his tagalog skills since he doesn't get to speak Tagalog as much anymore. I can't wait to get the next set! Marunong ko nung kaunti tagalog!!

I use these CD's on the drive to/from work, and they have proven most effective. I listen to each one about 2 or 3 times until I absorbed about 90% of the material. I think this is necessary because I'm partially focusing on the road.The CD's stay true to the title. All lessons are really working through a conversation, and not just repetitive memorization. I've made some good progress, and my filipino wife is quite impressed with what I've learned.I recommend this to anyone. I know my father tried Pimsleur's french lessons and had a equally good experience. the only negative is that you don't learn the spelling, but so what. I think their conversational technique is much more effective then a written lesson.

Not my first attempt in learning Tagalog. The other two study guides were not helpful. This lesson plan is totally awesome, to say the least. The way the lessons are setup gives you total confidence in learning the language when given full effort. The plan uses native speakers, with pauses, and revolving words and statements that allow you to respond to questions and answers. Folks, you can't go wrong with this lesson plan, I really recommend it. Happy learning. Ingat!!

It will help you get started and you wont have to feel lost when someone speaks Tagalog. Tagalog is spoken very fast usually, but this is slow enough to hear and learn

The product is good and I have used Pimsleur products many times but I just cannot grasp this language. The reason for my 3 star rating is more of a personal issue with the language itself than it is the software.If you have a strong desire to learn Tagalog than by all means purchase this but for myself I will stick with what I like.

It delivers on its promise to learn to speak Tagalog. It's teaching method is very effective. I'm already half way through the included 16 lessons and have learned quite a bit of basic conversational Tagalog.I purchased this product with confidence as I had used Pimsleur to effectively learn basic Japanese about 10 years ago, on audio cassette. Following the lessons along on my Ipod, I now have more portable, pinpoint access within each lesson. It's introductory focus on conversation is a nice compliment to using Rosetta Stone, which its strong point is building up a comprehensive vocabulary.
